The Pokemon Go Search for Zarude research quest is a brand new set of tasks that will allow players to catch the Generation 8 Mythical Pokemon Zarude. The other Mythical Pokemon from the previous 7 generations are already in in Pokemon Go: Mew, Celebi, Jirachi, Victini, Meloetta, Hoopa, and Meltan. Here is everything you need to know to complete Search for Zarude in Pokemon Go.

Pokemon Go Search For Zarude Research Quest

As with all Special Research quests, Search for Zarude is split up into multiple steps, with each one giving the player a specific set of challenges to complete before progressing to the next step. This one is split into five steps, which will focus on a different Pokemon-type, such as Flying, Ground, and Grass.

Pokemon Go Search for Zarude: Step 1/5

  • Catch 7 different species of Pokemon: 1 Sun Stone
  • Catch 7 Pokemon: Diglett encounter
  • Take 3 snapshots of wild Ground-type Pokemon: 15 Poké Balls

Rewards: 250 Stardust, 10 Nanab Berries, and a Drilbur encounter

This one is a really simple one to start the quest. Two of the challenges revolve around catching seven different Pokemon, with one calling for different species and the other simply wanting seven Pokemon. For the second one, these could be the same Pokemon, for example, you could catch seven Pikachus. But, as you need seven different species for the first challenge, it makes sense to go for that one and you will naturally unlock the second. Some of the critters you catch may even eventually become the best Pokemon in Pokemon Go.

The third challenge calls for taking three snapshots of wild Ground-type Pokemon. This is done by clicking the camera icon at the top of the screen while in an encounter. Then you can take a picture of the Pokemon and save it to your device. There are 65 Ground-type Pokemon currently in the game, with some of the more common including the Geodude and Diglett evolution line. One of the rewards is a Diglett encounter so that knocks one off your list. Take a picture of three of them to complete the final challenge and unlock the Drilbur encounter to move onto step two.

Pokemon Go Search for Zarude: Step 2/5

  • Make 5 Great Throws in a row: Pinap Berries
  • Catch 10 Bug-type Pokemon: Dwebble encounter
  • Take 3 snapshots of wild Bug-type Pokemon: 10 Great Balls

Rewards: 250 Stardust, 10 Razz Berries, and a Combee encounter

This quest focuses on a new type of Pokemon in each stage, with step two focusing on Bug-type Pokemon. You will need to catch 10 different Bug-type Pokemon, as well as take three snapshots of them. There are 61 Bug-type Pokemon in the game currently, with common ones including Caterpie, Weedle, and Venonat.

Finally, you will need to make five Great Throws in a row. This can be quite difficult to pull off consecutively. To perform a Great Throw, you need to land your Pokeball when the circle is less than half in size, you also need the Pokeball to land within the circle.

Pokemon Go Search for Zarude: Step 3/5

  • Use 20 Berries to help catch Pokemon: Sunny Cherrim encounter
  • Catch 30 Grass or Bug-type Pokemon: Vileplume encounter
  • Take 3 snapshots of wild Grass-type Pokémon: 10 Great Balls

Rewards: 500 Stardust, 10 Pinap Berries, and a Nuzleaf encounter

Step three will focus on Grass-type Pokemon, as well as Bug-type, with one challenge calling for 30 Pokemon to be caught, as well three snapshots of Grass-types. There are 79 Grass-type Pokemon in the game, such as Oddish, Bellsprout, and Tangela. When combined with the Bug-types that gives you 140 possible Pokemon to find, which will make it much easier. Remember to check Pokemon Go raids to see if they hold any you can't find in the wild.

Finally, use 20 Berries to help catch those Pokemon. You naturally receive many Berries throughout your time playing the game, so this shouldn't be too difficult to achieve.

Pokemon Go Search for Zarude: Step 4/5

  • Defeat 6 Team Go Rocket Grunts: Ariados encounter
  • Catch 15 Pokemon with Weather Boost: Butterfree encounter
  • Take 3 snapshots of wild Flying-type Pokemon: 10 Ultra Balls

Rewards: 500 Stardust, 1 Poffin, and a Rufflet encounter

This is when things get a little more tricky, as you will need to defeat six Team Go Rocket Grunts, which you can find quite often at Pokestops, but it is never a guarantee that they will be there. Next, this is another one based on luck and that is catching 15 Pokemon with a Weather Boost. Certain Pokemon have a higher chance of appearing in different weather, such as rain, and they usually come with a Weather Boost, so this one could be incredibly easy or quite difficult depending on the weather where you live.

Finally, take three snapshots of wild Flying-type Pokemon. There are 88 Flying-type Pokemon such as Butterfree, Pidgey, and Zubat, so this one shouldn't be very difficult to complete.

Pokemon Go Search for Zarude: Step 5/5

  • Claim reward: 1000 XP
  • Claim reward: 1000 XP
  • Claim reward: 1000 XP

Rewards: 1000 Stardust, 10 Zarude Candy, and a Zarude encounter

Step 5 is incredibly easy as it doesn't require any work, simply claim the three rewards for 1,000 XP each to unlock the encounter with Zarude. Once you catch the Pokemon the quest will be complete.
