Pokemon GO Lush Jungle is just the latest event in the ever-popular Pokemon GO, this guide will give you the lowdown including start times, all the Pokemon available and much more.

Pokemon GO Lush Jungle: Background And Start Time

The Season of Alola is moving along in Pokemon GO, and the next area of the tropical region to be featured is the Lush Jungle, home of Captain Mallow's trial. It seems Niantic has decided to break with the typical order of the Alola region's Island Challenge trials. In the Gen VII games, Mallow's trial is fourth overall, but it's the second to be featured in Pokemon GO.

As part of the Pokemon GO Lush Jungle event, Fomantis, Lurantis, and Tapu Lele will all make their debut. Lurantis serves as the Lush Jungle trial's Totem Pokemon, making it a perfect choice to celebrate this event. Tapu Lele, on the other hand, is the guardian deity of Akala Island, where the Lush Jungle is located. For everything going on in Pokemon GO's Lush Jungle event, read on!

The Lush Jungle event runs for one week, from Tuesday, March 22 (10am local) to Tuesday, March 29 (8pm).

One of the most exciting draws in the Pokemon GO Lush Jungle event is the debut of a new Legendary Pokemon — Tapu Lele. This Fairy/Psychic-type is the guardian deity of Akala Island and was a notorious menace in the days of Gen VII in the Trading Card Game and competitive battle scene. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like it'll measure up to its infamous status in Pokemon GO, but we'll see.

Tapu Lele will serve as the Tier 5 Raid boss during the Lush Jungle event. Here are all of the bosses:

Tier 1

  • Bellsprout
  • Tangela
  • Cottonee
  • Sewaddle

Tier 3

  • Butterfree
  • Vileplume
  • Parasect
  • Exeggutor

Tier 5

  • Tapu Lele

Mega Tier

  • Mega Charizard Y

As part of the Pokemon GO Lush Jungle event, there will be some special wild spawns, too. One of the Pokemon you might find is Fomantis, which is making its debut in Pokemon GO. Fomantis and its evolution, Lurantis, are both pure Grass-type Pokemon.

In the main series, Fomantis evolves after levelling up to at least 34 during the day. It's likely that it'll require 50 candies and for it to be daytime to evolve in Pokemon GO, as well.

Here are all the wild spawns you can expect to see:

  • Fomantis
  • Metapod
  • Paras
  • Exeggcute
  • Hoothoot
  • Sudowoodo
  • Ferroseed
  • Pinsir (rare)
  • Cottonee (rare)

Another Pokemon being featured in the Lush Jungle event is Cottonee, though it's not making its debut. However, what is debuting is its shiny form, which will become available at the beginning of the event.

Cottonee will be featured in its own mini-event within the larger celebration, too. From 10am on Saturday, March 26 until 8pm on Sunday, March 27, Cottonee will appear more frequently in parks.

To evolve Cottonee into Whimsicott, you'll need 50 Cottonee candies and a Sun Stone.

Pokemon GO Lush Jungle: Research Tasks

The Lush Jungle event will offer Field Research tasks, some Timed Research, and the debut of the Akala Island-themed Special Research. Here's what we know so far.

Field Research

We don't know what the tasks will be, but the Lush Jungle Field Research will be offering encounters with the following Pokemon:

  • Caterpie
  • Exeggcute
  • Sunkern
  • Wurmple
  • Seedot
  • Cottonee
  • Ferroseed
  • Fomantis
  • Paras (rare)
  • Parasect (rare)

Timed Research

The Lush Jungle Timed Research tasks are not yet revealed, but Niantic has stated that completing them will lead to encounters with event-themed Pokemon, including Fomantis.

Niantic's blog post says that catching Grass-type Pokemon will be a primary focus of the research.

Special Research

After Melemele Island received a Special Research questline, it only made sense that the other islands in Alola would get their own as well.

As such, there will be a new set of Special Research focused on the second island when the Lush Jungle event starts.

This questline will be available starting on March 22 and can be obtained up until June 1. If you don't complete it by then, no need to worry — you can take as long as you want to complete it. This date is just the cutoff for when you can start the research.

Remember: completing all of the Alolan islands' Special Research questlines will allow you to participate in a special bonus set of Special Research when the Season of Alola ends. If you don't complete them all, you can participate by purchasing a ticket for $4.99 (or the equivalent price in your local currency).

Still working on the previous set of Alolan Special Research? Here's our guide to Pokemon GO Melemele Adventure tasks.
