All Layers of Fear trailers

The only trailer for Layers of Fear so far came at Summer Game Fest 2022, confirming the title after some rumours that it was set to come. The trailer showcased a bunch of different scenes that may or may not be familiar to players of the first two games in the series.

It starts with a few shots of paintings (an important motif in the Layers of Fear franchise) before they are suddenly set aflame, and it cuts to a long dark hallway that the camera slowly moves through. Much of the imagery is deeply psychological, and the narrator of the trailer states "this is a story about of fear, pain, and hatred, and the horror of my loneliness."

It doesn't explicitly reveal in the trailer that this is a remake of the previous games with new content, but fans of the previous games may recognise some scenes and environments.

We're yet to see any actual gameplay, but we know how it plays based on the previous titles. It's a first-person psychological horror that is focused on exploring tense environments and immersive storytelling and will recreate the first Layers of Fear games along with the Inheritance DLC.

We don't have a full idea of how they plan on expanding on the past games with new content, or how the new story direction will incorporate all the narratives into one, but the developers have made the switch from Unity to Unreal Engine 5. The new engine also allows them to support technology like ray tracing, HDR, and 4K resolutions.

What platforms will Layers of Fear launch on?

As a next-gen title, the game is supposed to come out for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, along with a PC release for both Steam and Epic Games Store.
