Hollow Knight Silksong started life as an expansion, but soon found itself turning into a fully-fledged sequel with a new story, areas, enemies, and mechanics. Hollow Knight is one of the most acclaimed titles of the last decade - with its gorgeous art, tight combat, and worldbuilding all leaving an impression on players.

This has made the game one of the most hotly anticipated indies in recent memory, so if you're looking to know everything about it before launch, read on.

Do we know when Hollow Knight Silksong will launch?

Unfortunately, a launch window has not been set for Hollow Knight Silksong. At the Xbox Showcase 2022, the game was previously slated to launch in the following 12 months, meaning before June 2023.

However, Matthew Griffin, who handles marketing and publishing for Hollow Knight Silksong took to Twitter to let fans know that development is taking longer than originally anticipated, and the game has been pushed back. No date or timeframe was given, so fans will have to stay tuned for more updates. As we learn more, we'll update you right here.

Are there any Hollow Knight Silksong trailers?

The only trailer for Hollow Knight Silksong thus far debuted back in February 2019, showing off two minutes of gameplay, detailing a bunch of the new features and changes from the previous game. It gave us a glimpse at the new environments, bosses, NPCs, questing system, and much more, showing that it still has the core of Hollow Knight

After this, there was pretty much radio silence apart from the team's confirmation that they were still working on the game. At Xbox and Bethesda Games Showcase 2022, the game received another trailer that showed some new gameplay and confirmed that it would be coming to Xbox Series X|S and the Xbox Game Pass on launch.

What do we know about Hollow Knight Silksong gameplay?

Silksong will largely keep the same gameplay as the first title, with its 2D Metroidvania design that focuses on exploration, combat, and defeating bosses. This time, the game will emphasise speed and movement a little more to differentiate the protagonist of this game from the Knight in the previous title. This also ties into the healing mechanic, as Hornet can move while using silk to heal multiple masks, whereas the Knight could only heal one at a time and had to stay still. Overall, it has a much faster pace than Hollow Knight.

Quests will return, but in a slightly different format: While there were multiple quests in Hollow Knight, this time they are broken up into quest types: Hunt, Gather, Wayfarer, and Grand Hunt, allowing you to help out NPCs and learn more about the world. These may also tie into the brand-new crafting system, which lets you create weapons, tools, and traps from materials in the environment. We also know the permadeath mode will return for players who beat the game once, which is called Silk Soul Mode.

Are there details on Hollow Knight Silksong's story?

We aren't sure when Silksong takes place in relation to Hollow Knight, but we have an idea of how the story will work. Hornet is captured and taken to a far-away land, where she must climb to the top of the kingdom to reach the shining citadel and discover why she was captured and brought here. This is quite an obvious contrast to the original game, which saw the player descending deeper into Hallownest throughout the experience.

What platforms will Hollow Knight Silksong be on?

Hollow Knight Silksong has been confirmed to launch on Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Nintendo Switch. The previous game did come to PlayStation consoles a year after launch, so we'd expect something similar for Silksong. It will also be on Xbox Game Pass on the same day that it launches.

So, that's all we know so far about Hollow Knight Silksong. Make sure to check back with our guides homepage regularly for all the latest updates.
