Fortnite Characters are the non-player characters (NPCs) that patrol the island and offer their services to players. The services these NPCs offer vary widely, from selling Prop Disguises to providing intel on the incoming Storm. For the most part, Fortnite Characters work for Gold Bars - without them, they won't be too eager to help you out.

While there are 16 friendly Characters spread out across the island, only five offer themselves up for hire. Below is a list of all the NPCs you can hire and where you'll find them:

  • Nolan Chance (Scout Specialist): Frenzy Fields
  • Bull Shark (Scout Specialist): Creaky Compound
  • Royale Bomber (Supply Specialist): Brutal Bastion
  • Beastmode (Heavy Specialist): Breakwater Bay
  • Sun Strider (Medic Specialist): Eclipsed Estate

Now that you know which Fortnite Characters you can hire, it's time to recruit them. To hire a Character, you must approach the NPC and start a conversation

When you interact with a Fortnite NPC, a menu will come up showcasing all of the Character's offerings. At this point, you'll want to hover over the "hire" selection and confirm it. Recruiting Nolan Chance, Bull Shark, and Sun Strider costs 250 Gold Bars, but Royale Bomber and Beastmode will work for only 200 Gold Bars.

Hired Characters will follow you around loyally for the remainder of the match - unless you command them to do otherwise - and perform their Specialist duties. If you hire Sun Strider, for example, she will throw Chug Splashes at you to top off your Health and Shield.

If you have Gold Bars to spare, hiring Characters in Fortnite is a great investment! Not only will these NPCs aid you in battle, but hiring Characters in different matches is one of Chapter 4 Season 4's Weekly Quests. Hire a Character in three separate matches to net 24K XP toward your Season Level and Battle Pass.
