While it has been in the game in previous entries, the FIFA 23 outside the foot shot is far more usable in the latest title, and offers players another exciting way to attack the goal. There's nothing more satisfying in FIFA than to score a beautiful goal, and this particular shot will thankfully be at the birth of so many. So, to find out all about the FIFA 23 outside the foot shot, including the controls and how to use, then make sure to carry on reading down below.

While the FIFA 23 outside the foot shot will sometimes naturally occur when shooting normally - especially if your player has the specific trait - it can actually be performed by anyone, regardless of skill. All you need to do for the FIFA 23 outside the foot technique is hold L2 and press the shoot button, usually circle or B.

You do need to have your player's body oriented in a way that facilitates the shot, which can vaguely be translated to having the shoulder on the same side as you're shooting angled slightly towards the goal. However, it does have quite a wide angle of acceptance, so its worth trying even if you're not sure.

You can also use the outside the foot technique for passes and crosses too, and all you need to do is hold L2 and press the corresponding pass or cross button.

Unlike the FIFA 23 power shot technique, there is far less risk when using the outside the foot shot, and therefore it can be applied to many more situations.

Primarily, it is an excellent alternative to the finesse shot in the box, as it seems to be causing goalkeepers quite a lot of difficulty at the moment. You do need to make sure that there is enough space for the ball to curve past the keeper though, and that your player has adequate enough stats to deal with it.

Another great use situation is with players that have a lower weak foot stat, as it means that any situation that favours their weak foot can suddenly be turned around to their strong one. A right-footed right winger coming across goal for example has a much higher chance of scoring when curling with the outside of their strong foot, as opposed to a weak foot finesse or straight shot against the keeper.

It can also be utilised excellently with passes and crosses too, giving the slight curve and weight needed to land a ball perfectly at your strikers feet. With crosses, you're going to be generally looking at a flatter trajectory that is primed for an incoming runner, and an outside the boot pass is more suited for any runners looking to break the line and get in behind.

So, that's all you need to know about the FIFA 23 outside the foot shot technique, including the controls, and when best to use it. If there are any SBCs that you're stuck trying to figure out though, make sure to check out our FIFA 23 SBC solutions page for all of the answers.
