If you're here, then you'll want an answer to the question, does Fortnite have bots? Fortnite is the world's biggest battle royale and just a behemoth of a game in general, which attracts millions of players and has popularised the crossover trend many games have chased in recent years.

Considering each lobby is made up of 100 players, sometimes the game won't quite be able to fill every spot, but that leaves players wondering, does Fortnite have bots? Read on down below for an answer.

In short, Fortnite does have bots in many lobbies, and it's very common that you'll encounter them during your games, although you won't actually know who is a bot as it's hidden. This is a good method of naturally integrating them into the games without you knowing that you're just killing AI, so it still feels satisfying to defeat other players.

However, the amount of bots that will appear in a game does seem to vary based on some criteria, and this has shifted over the years as matchmaking has had changes. Currently, Fortnite has skill-based matchmaking (SBMM), which in principle will match you up with players that have a similar skill level. It's not a perfect system, but it does the job of keeping things relatively fair and stopping the very best players from stomping the very worst.

This SBMM system also changes how many bots will appear in each game based on a tiered system. Essentially, the worse you are as a player the lower your tier, and the more bots you will be matched up with. Whereas better players will be put in a higher tier and paired with more human players.

Here's how the tier system dictates the amount of bots:

  • Tier 1 - 75 bots
  • Tier 2 - 30 bots
  • Tier 3 - 20 bots

It's worth noting that the amount of bots won't always be the same as listed above, but this is the maximum amount that can be put into a game.

That's all for our explainer of whether Fortnite has bots, and now you know that bots are placed in matches based on a tiered system that's connected to skill-based matchmaking.
