We're in the endgame now. With Resident Evil Village offering up one of the most difficult games to grace the horror franchise's 25-year history, players are quickly learning that it's much more than just staking Lady Dimitrescu and kicking back in her castle with a nice glass of Sanguis Virginis. Lady D is one of the Four Lords, meaning gamers have to take out Dimitrescu, Beneviento, Moreau, and Heisenberg before setting sights on Mother Miranda.

Unsurprisingly, it's the defeat of Karl Heisenberg that's proving the most difficult in Resident Evil Village, with the smart-mouthed master of magnetism serving more like a final boss. It's ironic that Heisenberg is the first of the Four Lords that Ethan Winters meets, with the tormented hero finally getting to face off against Heisenberg in his factory of horrors. You'll need your wits about you and a well-stocked arsenal to obliterate Heisenberg, but don't worry, we've got you covered on how to do it.

Resident Evil Village kicks things into overdrive when you enter Heisenberg's factory. After besting the Sturm miniboss with a propeller for a head, Ethan meets an enraged Heisenberg who warns him to stay out of the way. Ethan is blasted by the boss man and falls right to the bottom of the factory to climb all the way up again - fab. Thankfully, Ethan runs into old frenemy Chris Redfield, who kits out our hero with a DIY tank that's complete with a chainsaw, machine gun, and missile launcher. Sent up a conveniently placed lift shaft, we enter Heisenberg's arena of death.

When facing Heisenberg, remember that there is a fleshy man under there somewhere. Starting off, shoot at any parts that glow red - these represent Heisenberg's human parts poking through. You'll know you've hit the sweet spot when the sparks start to fly. Guarding is also an imperative trick. Much like Ethan holding up his hands to ward off Lycans, the tank has a similar guard function.

In the second stage of the battle, Heisenberg will use his magnetic abilities to create a floating shield that orbits him. Look for gaps in Heisenberg's defences and then unload everything you've got when you see an opportunity. The general idea is to make the most of your machine gun and lack of cooldown time, then blast with the rocket launcher when you can. By this point, Heisenberg is seriously p*ssed and has started to smoulder. The third stage has Heisenberg throw metal plates out into the field and rush you with his chainsaw while also firing drills as projectiles. Thankfully, the plates serve as perfect barriers to stop his incoming attacks.

After repeating the process, a desperate Heisenberg swings his giant blade and knocks Ethan out of his makeshift tank. When on foot, Ethan reverts to his arsenal of standard weapons and has to keep firing at Heisenberg's head. The final showdown has the battered boss throwing players into the air. This means Ethan can clamber back into his tank and fire down on Heisenberg from above. With one final cue, shoot a rocket at his head. Boom, Heisenberg is out for the count, and the last of the Four Lords is bested.

Heisenberg wanted to topple Mother Miranda from her throne, and while he doesn't get to do it, Ethan is still determined to. The battle ends with Ethan getting a phone call from Chris and meeting a ghostly version of Mia. This Mia is revealed to be Mother Miranda in disguise and the one that's been pulling the strings this entire time.

The final furlong delivers another twist, and this time, you get to play as fan-favourite Chris Redfield. Heading down through the village, Chris is off to the ceremonial site to stop Miranda from fusing Rose Winters with the essence of her daughter Eve. It's a nice nod back to RE7's Eveline. In the ceremonial site, there's a metric tonne of information to unpack - including a tie to Oswell E. Spencer and the origin of the Umbrella Corporation.

The ceremonial site is where Ethan makes his last stand against Mother Miranda and also learns the shocking truth about his own fragile mortality. Chris is obviously there to help, with the former BSAA agent becoming an MVP in the last fight. We've already explained what happens during the Resident Evil Village ending and its post-credit scene, but for the game, the defeat of Heisenberg represents a pivotal point of the story. Arguably, this mechanical menace is the hardest boss in the game, so make sure you're prepared to tackle the Transformer-esque villain head-on.
