Around for one final weekend, the approaching deadline of the 7-Star Mewtwo event will in doubt have Pokemon Scarlet & Violet players dive into one final search for the best Mewtwo Tera Raid counters.

Being the toughest of the 7-Star raids to appear in the game so far, the legendary Psychic type has been a level of challenge surely making some trainers frustrated with their usual counters not being enough to take on the Mighiest Mark Mewtwo.

Below, you'll find the list of full builds of movesets and strategies for the best Mewtwo 7-Star Tera Raid counters alongside the best Mew Bug Tera build - so let's get into it.

As clarified on the official Pokemon forum, the 7-Star Mewtwo Tera Raid is available now after starting on Thursday, August 31, 2023, at 5PM PDT, running through until Sunday, September 17, 2023, at 4:59PM PDT.

Although also among the list of Pokemon that can be transferred from past games via Pokemon HOME, making Mewtwo obtainable through other means, this 7-Star boss wielding the Mightiest Mark boasts a competitive-level build and moveset - with a plethora of rewards that will make taking this challenge all the more worth it.

So, the Mewtwo Tera Raid is currently the only way to obtain the Drummer Pokemon in Scarlet & Violet.

How to find Mewtwo Tera Raid in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet

Like when searching for active 7-Star raids from the past, the Mewtwo Tera Raid can be easily found in Scarlet & Violet by looking out for the black crystals on the map.

Like its base type, the Mightiest Mark Mewtwo will be sporting a Psychic Tera Type. So, you'll need to spot the black crystal for the Psychic-type symbol on it to identify the raid's location.

This Mightiest Mark Mewtwo has a varied moveset to cover a majority of challenging types: Aura Sphere, Calm Mind, Ice Beam, and Psystrike - along with combining Rest and a held Chesto Berry to quickly recover all of its health without any drawbacks.

Mewtwo 7-Star Tera Raid weaknesses in Scarlet & Violet

As in past mainline Pokemon games, Mewtwo is weak against Bug, Ghost, and Dark-type attacks in this 7-Star Tera Raid - all inflicting 2x super-effective damage.

However, just throwing in a random Pokemon of any of those types to face this boss won't be enough.

With a competitive build, Mewtwo's aforementioned moveset gives it major type coverage, and Sp. Atk stat ranking amongst the highest in the series, you need a well-built Pokemon with a sound strategy to back it up.

So, in order to beat the Mewtwo 7-Star Raid in Scarlet & Violet, you will need to use one of the best Mewtwo Tera Raid counters listed below.

Best Mewtwo 7-Star Tera Raid moveset counters in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet

Scizor

Amongst the featured Tera Raids currently available in the game to help you prepare your offence until September 17, Scizor is one of the easiest ways to defeat Mewtwo - being 0.5x resistant to its Ice Beam and Psystrike, only taking standard damage from Aura Sphere.

The best Scizor Mewtwo Tera Raid build is as follows:

  • Ability: Technician
  • Nature: Adamant
  • Tera Type: Bug
  • Hold Item: Shell Bell
  • EVs: 252 Atk, 252 HP, 4 Sp. Def
  • Moveset: Fury Cutter, Struggle Bug, Swords Dance, X-Scissor

With X-Scissor as a backup for a final big hit on Mewtwo if your Scizor has just fainted,  the main focus of this build is on Fury Cutter, after using Struggle Bug - to lower Mewtwo's Sp. Atk and Swords Dance to increase Scizor's Attack stat by two stages.

Starting at 40, initially boosted by Scizor's Technician ability, Fury Cutter's base power doubles with each consecutive use up to a max of 160. So, along with the 1.5x STAB (Same-Type-Attack Bonus), you'll be hitting Mewtwo with up to a power of 240 - with the Shell Bell replenishing Scizor's HP to get some extra hits in.

Terastallizing for even more power is an option, but be wary since making it a pure Bug-type will take away Scizor's resistance to Ice Beam.

Shadow Rider Calyrex

Although needing to be transferred over via Pokemon HOME, the Shadow Rider form of Calyrex is well worth the effort as the ideal Special Attacker among the best Mewtwo Tera Raid counters - being 100% resistant to Aura Sphere, 0.5x resistant to Psystrike, and only taking standard damage from Ice Beam.

The best Shadow Rider Calyrex Mewtwo Tera Raid build is as follows:

  • Ability: As One
  • Nature: Modest
  • Tera Type: Ghost
  • Hold Item: Shell Bell
  • EVs: 252 Sp. Atk, 252 HP, 4 Def
  • Moveset: Astral Barrage, Light Screen, Nasty Plot, Snarl

The strategy around using Shadow Rider Calyrex to defeat the 7-Star Mewtwo works on multiple fronts. First, you can start with Light Screen or jump right into using Snarl to lower Mewtwo's Sp. Atk whilst inflicting some initial damage.

Secondly, you can enhance Clayrex's Sp. Atk by two stages with the use of Nasty Plot before hitting with the Shadow Rider's exclusive move, Astral Barrage. With a 120 base power, 100 accuracy, and STAB bonus, Shadow Calyrex will inflict guaranteed hits of super-effective 180 power damage - also nicely replenishing the user's health at the same time via the held Shell Bell.

What is the best Pokemon to use against Tera Mewtwo?

Available to claim right now using the free Mystery Gift code, Mew is the quickest to obtain amongst Mewtwo Tera Raid counters - with many also saying it's the best Pokemon to use against Mewtwo if you're using the ideal Bug-type Tera build.

Not only is the below build great for debuffing Mewtwo and recovering health, but can also deal massive damage as well - along with being 0.5x resistant to Psystrike and Aura Sphere, only taking standard damage from Ice Beam.

The best Mew Bug Tera build to counter and defeat the 7-Star Mewtwo is as follows:

  • Ability: Synchronize
  • Nature: Adamant
  • Tera Type: Bug
  • Hold Item: Life Orb
  • EVs: 252 Atk, 252 HP, 4 Sp. Def
  • Moveset: Light Screen, Leech Life, Struggle Bug, Swords Dance

After using Struggle Bug to lower Mewtwo's Sp. Atk and Light Screen to raise your raid party's Special Defense, it's mainly Leech Life and Swords Dance you'll need to focus on using. After boosting Mew's Attack stat, Leech Life - boosted by the held Life Orb -will inflict and recover even more damage via the move's effect.

For a final massive blow of damage, you can Terastallize Mew to increase the damage of Struggle Bug and Leeh Life and to finally finish Mewtwo off.

That's everything you need to know about the best counters for the 7-Star Tera Raid to beat Mewtwo. If you want to take on more Pokemon raids, have a look at the latest Pokemon GO Raid schedule. For even more Pokemon Scarlet & Violet guides, you can be sure to find them right here at GGRecon.
