It looks like Thanos has got his hands on the Infinity Gauntlet again, and in a click of his fingers, could be ready to wipe Marvel's Midnight Suns from existence - well, at least its last-gen ports. While the tactical RPG looks poised to cash in on our love of all things spandex, Firaxis Games has confirmed the superhero ensemble has been delayed... again.

From the moment Marvel's Midnight Suns was announced, it was battling its critics. Effectively an XCOM game with Marvel heroes, many were unconvinced about a superhero card game being pushed as an AAA release. Following an announcement at last year's Gamescom, we were hopeful for an early 2022 release before it was shoved into the second half of this year. Now, even that looks unlikely.

What Is The Marvel Midnight Suns Release Date?

Things have been a little quiet over at Midnight Suns HQ, and apart from revealing new characters like Doctor Strange at Summer Game Fest, we assumed things were still on track for the proposed October 7 release. Sadly, Take-Two Interactive's earnings results confirmed that Midnight Suns has been pushed back "to ensure the teams at Firaxis Games and 2K deliver the best possible experience for our fans."

With a mention of arriving "later this fiscal year," it means Take-Two will release Midnight Suns before March 2023. There's no specific date of when, and if we were betting people, we'd guess it's toward the end of that window. Now, Midnight Suns joins the likes of Starfield and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 as big releases that have slipped to 2023.

Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick said this delay is to allow Firaxis to "search for quality, and a great deal of confidence that we have a wonderful title on our hands and we want to make sure it's as good as it can possibly be." For anyone worrying there will be another delay, Zelnick concluded, "I'm not concerned about that." That being said, there are worrying words that only the PC, PS5, and Xbox Series releases will hit that window. PS4, Xbox One, and Switch owners are left in the dark, with only a mention that they'll arrive even later.

Will Marvel Midnight Suns Cancel Its Last-Gen Versions?

With each day, it looks increasingly likely that the last-gen versions of Marvel's Midnight Suns will be shown the door. We're at something of a crossroads in terms of gaming capabilities, and as developers (obviously) put their efforts into the PS5 and Xbox Series versions, your old PS4 and Xbox One are being put out to pasture.

You only have to look at the Cyberpunk 2077 debacle to see why ditching a last-gen release can sometimes be for the best. Putting it simply, titles are getting too advanced for older consoles, which can make it sometimes look like you're running a potato. We've already seen Warner Bros. Montreal axe its last-gen versions of Gotham Knights, and while Firaxis hasn't butchered a PS4 and Xbox One Midnight Suns yet, we bet it's coming. Sorry, the Avengers aren't assembling just yet.
