Marvel's Midnight Suns Delayed To The Second Half Of 2022

The ongoing effects of the pandemic are still being felt, and this time it has seen Marvel's Midnight Suns delayed. Marvel's Midnight Suns is bringing the darker side of the Marvel universe to this tactical RPG. Originally slated for a March 2022 release, the Marvel's Midnight Sun delay means that players could wait another year until they can get their hands on it. 

Instead of receiving a new release date, the Marvel's Midnight Suns delay announcement only offered up a new release window. In a statement from Creative Director Jake Solomon, he stated: "We've made the very tough decision to move our launch window to the second half of 2022. We know many fans were looking forward to playing the game original next spring, and this decision did not come lightly."

A Darker Take On The Marvel Universe

The game centres around a darker and more supernatural take on the Marvel Universe than what's been seen in previous games and films. Featuring the likes of Blade, Captain Marvel and Dr Strange, players will experience an "immersive personal story" and tactical turn-based combat. The reveal of the card-based system didn't sit quite right with a lot of fans, and the Marvel's Midnight Suns gameplay trailer had us worried.

While each hero will bring their own combat abilities, Midnight Suns will also feature the first original and customisable hero in the form of The Hunter. The Hunter will allow you to forge your own relationships with various heroes outside of combat. 

Marvel's Midnight Suns is being developed by Firaxis Games, the studio behind titles such as XCOM 2 and Civilisation 6. Solomon claimed that the Marvel's Midnight Suns delay would allow for "more story, cinematics and overall polish" to be added to the game. Firaxis Games has been received well for its openness to the state of the game, through its developer livestreams and gameplay deep dives.  

While the Marvel’s Midnight Suns delay will be disappointing to many, it will hopefully mean that it will launch in a more stable state. It certainly isn’t your typical AAA experience, so the extra polish will go a long way in convincing those sceptical of its card-based combat system.
