We can hear some clicking in the distance, so we hope you're ready to get down with the sickness for HBO's live-action The Last of Us series. Headed up by Chernobyl's Craig Mazin and having a little help from Naughty Dog's Neil Druckmann, it promises to be a faithful retelling of the 2013 game... and beyond.

Given Mazin's success with Chernobyl - and the fact HBO continues to churn out legendary dramas like The Sopranos, Westworld, and House of the Dragon - there are high hopes that The Last of Us will be TV's next big thing. Well, that's if it had a release date. We know The Last of Us is coming in 2023, but when exactly?

What Is The Leaked Release Date For The Last Of Us Series?

On Twitter, multiple reports are that the HBO Max app has listed The Last of Us release date as January 15, 2023. In the United Kingdom, Sky has listed January 16, which would line up January 15 due to time zones. According to VGC, a "senior source" claims the date is real and that an official reveal is slated for later in the week.

Naughty Dog can't seem to catch a break these days, and you might remember when The Last of Us Part I was leaked ahead of schedule and left an angered Druckmann shaking his head. Up there with AhsokaMarvel's Secret Invasion, and maybe even Amazon's live-action Fallout seriesThe Last of Us will undoubtedly be one of next year's biggest TV shows.

Starring Game of Thrones alumni Bella Ramsey and Pedro Pascal and the pair are taking on the cordyceps infection as Ellie and Joel. From what we've seen, it'll chart the early levels of the original game. Then again, the fact we've got Yellowjackets' Melanie Lynskey in a brand-new role suggests that we'll be sticking around a little longer instead of just rattling through things.

Will The Last Of Us Get A Multi-Season Order?

With HBO seemingly on the marketing assault ahead of The Last of Us release, we can't see it stumbling. Then again, stranger things have happened. We'd be surprised if HBO wasn't already planning out multiple seasons of The Last of Us to cover both games and maybe take us even further into the realms of a mythical The Last of Us Part 3

Remember, we originally hoped that the live-action The Last of Us would land in 2022, so at least we're getting an early 2023 release. The video game adaptation world is getting pretty packed right now. Away from promises of more Uncharted movies with Tom Holland, there's Liam Hemsworth taking over for The Witcher Season 4, Amazon's Fallout, and a proposed God of War series. Here's hoping they can stick the landing and break that video game adaptation curse.
