Rumours of the Knights of the Old Republic remake being cancelled have been spread several times since it was first announced.

A popular industry insider has suggested that the game is not going to happen, a theory only cemented by lack of comment from Embracer.

An industry insider thinks KOTOR is unlikely to happen

Jeff Grubb, a known voice of insider information from the games industry, said during GiantBomb’s Game Mess Mornings earlier this week that the Knights of the Old Republic remake is no longer in the works.

He said: ““I just want to clear it up: this game is not being worked on right now. Just, full stop, this game is not being worked on in any way by any studio.

“I looked into it a little bit; I don’t think this is news to most of you. I think you guys can piece together if you’ve been listening to this, and Sony stepping away and scrubbing mentions of Knights of the Old Republic on social media and YouTube. You can put two and two together there, but just to 100% confirm it: this game is not being worked on right now.”

While there is nothing concrete to confirm this statement, it would not be entirely shocking, as Embracer has been refusing to comment on the remake's progress.

The Knights of the Old Republic remake has been on the rocks for a while

The remake of Knights of the Old Republic has been in limbo for a while now, with its first indefinite delay being put in place in late July last year.

Since then, Sony has removed the KOTOR trailer from their social media, as well as several posts relating to the game.

Similarly, Embracer group CEO Lars Wingefors refuses to speak about the project, saying: “I noticed that anything I say to this becomes a headline. So that is my only comment.”

While it would be a shame for the game to no longer happen, it isn’t unexpected given its bumpy history.

Hopefully someone from Embracer or Sony will explain more about what is happening with the title in the near future.
