Knights of the Old Republic remake news restores balance to the Force
No matter what form they take, Star Wars games continue to roll out year after year, delivering at least something for players to latch onto. But if the recent launch of the Star Wars Battlefront Classic Collection is anything to go by, we could be in for a dry spell.
For years now, we haven't heard anything reassuring about the expected remake of Star Wars classic RPG, Knights of the Old Republic. Originally announced under Apsyr back in 2021, rumours of its restarts and troubled development are all that we have to go off.
If we're lucky, the balance in the Force could be about to change, as Saber Interactive announces that it isn't throwing in the towel just yet.
Saber Interactive says KOTOR is "alive and well"
It's shocking that "we’re still making it" counts as good news for the Knights of the Old Republic remake, but we'll certainly take it.
Saber Interactive is the new team responsible for bringing KOTOR back from the dead, and now, its CEO has come forward to suggest that we've been worrying for no reason. According to CEO Matthew Karch, the long-awaited game is still very much in the works.
"It's clear and it's obvious that we're working on this," says Karch in a conversation with IGN. "It's been in the press numerous times. What I will say is that the game is alive and well, and we're dedicated to making sure we exceed consumer expectations."
The boss seems exasperated by ongoing rumours, and frustrated though his response may be, it bodes well for the game's fans.
KOTOR may still be far, far away
Though a Knights of the Old Republic remake might still be in development, Embracer boss Lars Wingefors has suggested that the game could still be some time away. At a press conference, Wingeford warned, "I think that kind of game needs some deep love and respect, so without giving full color, I think it’s some time left until that is released."
No matter how long it might take for a KOTOR remake to arrive, as long as it does, we'll be happy. After all, the title is regarded by many as the greatest Star Wars game ever made. If it needs more time in the oven, fans are more than happy to give Darth Malak the time he needs to weave his wicked web.
