Stone Cold Steve Austin is swapping the WWE ring for the gaming arena and stepping in to declare what he thinks is the best Zelda game of all time. Although he's not a man you'd want to argue with, safe to say, his pick is sure to divide Hyrule like the Triforce itself.

First slashing its way onto the Famicom Disk System in 1986, The Legend of Zelda became a legend in its own right. Up there with Mario, Link has become the poster boy for the Nintendo name, and as we look ahead to next year with the delayed The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2, it's amazing to think how far we've come.

What Does Stone Cold Steve Austin Think The Best Zelda Game Is?

Depending on when you grew up, it's likely you have a different favourite Zelda game. Much like you can usually tell how old someone is based on whether it's Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield, or Tom Holland who is their favourite Spider-Man, Austin's age at 57 should make him more of a classic Zelda fan. Well, you're wrong.

We don't know what makes Austin think he's a Zelda aficionado, but hey, maybe he's trying to audition to play Ganon in a mythical live-action Netflix series based on the IP? A snippet from an upcoming episode of the WWE Network's Broken Skull Sessions features Austin and guest Cody Rhodes answering a series of quickfire questions. When pushed on the "best" Zelda game, Cody quick responds, "Ocarina of Time. Hands down."

While Cody is sure to get the support of plenty, Austin chimed in to say, "No dude, Breath of the Wild." Unlike Cody - who is something of a known gaming fanatic - Austin isn't exactly considered a Jeff Grubb of the gaming world. Although he's appeared in numerous WWE and WWF games, we'd never have guessed he's been paragliding into Hyrule.

Is Breath Of The Wild The 'Best' Zelda Game?

As you can imagine, Austin's musings blew up the Twitterverse with people in both camps. Even Cody said Austin picking Breath of the Wild is a "bold choice." One critic wrote, "Though the GOAT for me is Ocarina of Time, it took me by surprise when Steve mentioned Breath of the Wild as I never fancied him to be a gamer." Another added, "I didn't have 'hearing SCSA utter the words 'Breath of the Wild'' on my 2022 bingo card."

Released in 2017, Breath of the Wild became a flagship title for the Nintendo Switch, cleared the awards boards, and is one of the best-selling video games of all time. Yeah, it's great and all, but how many of us can still remember how to play "Saria's Song" from memory? Look, arguing over whether Breath of the Wild or Ocarina is the superior title means we could be here all year. Let everyone have their opinion, but put it this way though, we doubt anyone is going to be calling Skyward Sword the best Zelda game.
