That tormented town is calling us back, and while it's been an unlucky 13 years since Silent Hill 2 scared the pants off us, we're more than ready to have nightmares all over again. The Konami favourite is getting a new lick of paint, and now, it looks like Sony has locked in a release date.

Long before the Silent Hill 2 remake was officially announced at 2022's Silent Hill Transmission event, we'd heard a lot about this new-gen refresh. It's no secret that Konami has let the fires burn low on Silent Hill, with the last mainline release being 2012's Silent Hill: Downpour. Don't worry, we're coming back in style.

Silent Hill 2 remake seemingly locks in a 2024 release window

While the console wars rage on, Sony still has Microsoft (largely) licked when it comes to first-party exclusives. Although Silent Hill 2 was later released on Xbox, it made its debut on PlayStation 2, so it seems apt that it's making its return on the PlayStation 5.

Sony Interactive Entertainment has released a new hype reel for 2024, showing what a big year the gaming giant is aiming for. Among the highlighted releases, we've got Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth, Tekken 8, and more. For many, it's the haunting hypnosis of the Silent Hill 2 remake that's luring them in.

Bloober Team is heading up the Silent Hill 2 remake, and until now, there was no release window. Being able to pencil it in for 2024 is another major win for the Blue Team. As for what to expect, Bloober has promised a "faithful" recreation of the original but asked for "patience" in November 2023. By the looks of it, things are progressing nicely.

Metal Gear Solid 3 remake also heads toward 2024 release

Konami's big three are Silent Hill, Castlevania, and Metal Gear, with the latter also poised for a bumper 2024. Similar to Silent Hill 2, 2004's Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater has earned itself quite the legacy. It has also faced various releases and 3D reimaginings, but now, it's getting a new-gen remake.

Konami Digital Entertainment is working on the mouthful of Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, which is apparently a "faithful recreation of the original story and game design," using the original voice actors but promising to "evolve" the story.

Even though there's no escaping the gravitas that the original Silent Hill 2 and Metal Gear Solid 3 hold, their 2024 remakes have the potential to capture a whole new generation of fans while (hopefully) doing justice to the OGs. As Sony's 2024 slate fills up nicely, we find ourselves asking, "Who needs Activision Blizzard anyway?"
