'Scump' Outraged By Call Of Duty League 2021 Bubble Rumours
With news that the Call of Duty League 2021 could introduce a new bubble system to tackle the coronavirus pandemic, the professional scene is split on whether it's a welcome addition or the worst thing to happen to the competition.
Firmly against the idea is Seth "Scump" Abner, who has been particularly vocal about his potential move to Dallas. 2020 was rocked by COVID-19, meaning CDL was forced to move online. There were complaints about the integrity of the League when several teams shared their frustration over lagging issues, some teams ended up going offline, and others had to move for a better connection.
We've already seen the NBA employ a bubble system to regain some form of normality, and according to the latest rumours, CDL 2021 could follow suit. Sources claim the Call of Duty League 2021 bubble could take place in either Las Vegas or Dallas, and safe to say, Scump isn't having any of it.
The Chicago Huntsman player took to Twitter to explain his rage in a foul-mouthed rant. Discussing the idea of a Call of Duty League 2021 bubble, Scump responded, "A bubble, what the f**k am I going to do about my dog, my cats? What the f**k bubble? I don't want a bubble". Scump's fury continued as he added, "I would rather play online than in a bubble somewhere. I'd rather play everything online. What? I'm texting Hector (referring to H3CZ) right now. Terminate my s**t now!"
The Esports Observer also noted that several players' contracts have clauses in about relocating for training. Plenty of contracts have already been signed for the next CDL season and would need revising if the bubble idea is going to go ahead.
More and more pro comps have toyed with the idea of a bubble system to get their players back together. Looking at CDL 2020, one of the big dramas was Seattle Surge's forced forfeit over connection issues, which was later deemed as "player error". Elsewhere, Royal Ravens lost a match to Toronto Ultra when Trei "Zer0" Morris dropped out of a match over internet issues.
However, not everyone hates the idea of a CDL bubble. Austin "SlasheR" Liddicoat share the news and a fingers crossed gif. Maurice "F3rocitys" Henriquez was also behind the move and added, "I would pay money to have you watch over me shooting bots again LIVE IN THE FLESH". Still, others have complained about the unfair nature of Dallas Empire being part of the Call of Duty League 2021 bubble while everyone else would have to move to their hometown.
No matter where a Call of Duty League 2021 bubble was going to take place, there were always going to be some teams closer and others that would be forced to travel a distance. It's important to remember Activision hasn't commented on the idea of a bubble yet, with Toronto Ultra's Dominique Gelineau suggesting the rumours aren't exactly true. Whatever happens with CDL 2021, it's clear the playerbase will be divided by either a return to online play or the idea of a bubble system. Watch this space.
