In the wake of Verdansk, a new hero rose to the occasion and provided Warzone players with the lust for action that they craved.
Rebirth Island created a legacy for Warzone players, having provided us with a new haven in a slightly different setting when large-scale battle royale maps such as Caldera failed us.
But amid rumours that it will be returning to the franchise, fans have now welcomed the news that (despite its quality) it won't be coming to Warzone 2 after all.
Rebirth Island isn't coming to Warzone 2 after all
Warzone players went as far as bidding Rebirth Island and Fortune's Keep a goodbye and have mourned it ever since.
Recent leaks then indicated that Rebirth Island could be coming back to the franchise, as game files found within the Call of Duty realm insinuated that the Alcatraz-based map would be joining a nighttime Al Mazrah mode in the future.
However, this has now been debunked, as popular Call of Duty insider CharlieIntel has confirmed that the Rebirth Island files are related to a Warzone: Mobile project, which will fit in alongside the port of Verdansk.
Warzone 2 fans are pleased that Rebirth Island isn't being remastered to protect its legacy
Now, fans have vocally backed the fact that Rebirth Island isn't coming to Warzone 2, claiming that it doesn't deserve to be hindered by the slow gameplay and movement mechanics of the sequel title that would tarnish its reputation.
"No one wants this s**t on MWII movement, we all just want it on Warzone 1," said one, pointing out that they have been removed from the legacy title whereas Caldera remains. "Glad they put this legendary map not on this ass game which is WZ2," added another critic.
Others did point out that they'd "rather we had a new map for Warzone 2 instead of playing on a map that we've had for two-to-three years," which comes as a good take for Activision, given that it is set to release two more Resurgence maps in Las Almas and Vondel later this year.
