MW3 Ranked play gets a massive shake-up, but it's too little too late

Modern Warfare 3's Ranked playlist is finally getting a knock at the door, but there's no one home.

Mw3 Ranked Season 6

Sledgehammer Games has earned a lot of respect from Call of Duty fans with its performance in Modern Warfare 3. A large portion of the community hails its post-launch content as the best we've ever had, despite Treyarch already pinching maps for Black Ops 6.

Throughout the year, MW3 has had 18 brand-new multiplayer maps and two older remasters in addition to the original 16 we got at launch - making the most that any CoD has ever had.

Yet for Ranked Play, the map pool has stayed almost the same as what it was during Season 3. That is until now, as Modern Warfare 3 Ranked is getting a massive shakeup.

MW3 Ranked Play gets a massive map overhaul

Rio, Vista, and 6 Star have been the only maps to be added to Ranked in the post-launch content, leaving the original maps like Invasion and Karachi to dominate the playlist all year round.

In Season 6 and the final hoorah of MW3, Sledgehammer Games has rolled out a mass new update that adds an abundance of new maps into Ranked.

  • Hardpoint
    • Incline
    • Tokyo
  • Search and Destroy
    • Paris
    • Departures
    • Bait
  • Control
    • Grime
    • Incline
    • Tokyo

These maps will be added to the existing pool, rather than replacing them, as Ranked Play gets a nice boost for its swansong season.

MW3 players frustrated at last-gasp Ranked update

The Ranked playlist is designed to follow the professional circuit, where the Call of Duty League pros only ended their season in July.

Still, this was prior to Season 5, and having seen the competitive community trail off since the CDL's World Championship ended, many fans think this Season 6 update is too little, too late.

"Last season for the game finally adds more maps to comp. What a joke," said one fan on X. Another added, "Wtf no? For the last season it’s such a bad idea... (my opinion). We need to learn so much new stuff for less than a month?"

The same sentiment has already been echoed by the likes of Seth "Scump" Abner, who claimed that Ranked has been "dead" since Season 2 amid a hacker infestation, hoping that Black Ops 6 can turn the tables.

The consensus is that this is a much-needed update to Ranked following the end of the CDL season, but coming in Season 6 is two months too late, and it's a lot to learn for a game that will be deleted by most in a matter of weeks.
