For the longest time in Modern Warfare 3, the MCW was the premium Assault Rifle being used by the majority of competitors.

Sledgehammer Games was clearly ready for a change of guard, as the MCW was hit with massive nerfs in Season 3, reducing its headshot damage multiplier.

So, what rifle has taken its place at the top of the rankings? Well, even before the latest patch, the SVA 545 was already immensely strong and had all the tools to replace the MCW as the next top-tier weapon.

Just to make sure, the devs decided to massively buff the SVA on April 9, and MW3 players are confused about why that was necessary.

On April 9, the SVA 545 was the recipient of some extremely powerful buffs, elevating the already deadly AR to a new level.

The power increases came in the form of damage range enhancements at long and medium distances, making it far more consistent at beaming foes down.

This is significant as the SVA was already incredibly easy to control and had no recoil. Not only that, but its damage output was solid as well, with the rifle having a top-tier TTK.

MW3 fans don't understand why "best AR" is getting more buffs

The decision for Sledgehammer to buff the SVA has been met with widespread confusion, with many already considering the gun as the "best AR" in the game on the MW3 Subreddit.

As a result, in their opinion, these changes were not necessary and have just made it so players feel like they have no other option but to run the SVA in multiplayer.

"Why do they keep buffing the SVA? Lol, the gun is really not weak by any means, in fact, it can have a really good TTK if you hit the first two shots," said one user, with another claiming, "They'll overbuff it, only to later over nerf it, the gun was perfectly fine before."

Many competitors don't understand why MW3 guns like the SVA are getting love, but the MW2 arsenal remains "untouched" and "barely useable." For many, it feels like the devs have given up on the Modern Warfare 2 guns, which has left the community wondering why they were even carried over in the first place.
