There are fewer more frustrating things in the Call of Duty series than the Riot Shield, especially when it's on the back of some slide-cancelling Sammy turns and burns you with the WSP Swarm after blocking 20 bullets.

Aside from a handful of players using the shields as they are intended to be, providing cover from the front, Riot Shields are pretty much used as a gimmick to avoid being shot in the back, and so far that comes with no penalty.

But Modern Warfare 3 fans are a bit more switched on than other years, and have now come up with a savvy way to penalise people who are getting the most out of this exploit.

Modern Warfare 3 players hypothesise action against Riot Shields

The worst part about the shields is the turtling effect, and players often use this paired with an SMG to make quick getaways.

However, one Reddit thread has now posed the hypothesis of nerfing the Riot Shields by making movement speed slower, which would be the case in real life if you had to laud one of them around on your shoulders.

"It's ridiculous somebody can run around the map without much worry of getting shot in the back besides the feet. It's so corny and really needs a nerf," one Redditor said.

Other fans agreed with the Redditor, as the post surpassed 500 upvotes from supporters, with players continuing the calls for movement nerfs for the protective plastic piece.

One fan agreed, adding, "The shield should set a flat movement speed debuff regardless of its location. You shouldn't be able to quick-throw Lethals while holding it and shouldn't be able to knee slide."

"Death to the Turtles," another added, hopeful to not attract the environmentalists.

This might solve a problem in Warzone too, where Riot Shields are proving all the more popular in the current meta, especially when paired with a throwing knife.
