The first linings of Sledgehammer Games' golden archive bag are finally threading their way into Modern Warfare 3, as the studio is revisiting its old content to boost the current title.
The second remastered map from Vanguard is here, albeit with some pushback, and with it comes the return of Godzilla, following the big-toed footprints of King Kong.
But the arrival of the two beasts has some Modern Warfare 3 fans left with an empty feeling, as there is a Mayhem-shaped hole in the series.
Call of Duty fans demand Mayhem's return amid Kong x Godzilla 2
The first time around, King Kong and Godzilla ran rampant in Call of Duty. Fans hated the Warzone event as the monsters would ruin the battle royale experience with their cheesy fights. But over in Vanguard, life wasn't half bad with a bit of a furry influx.
The collaboration with Kong x Godzilla also brought the map Mayhem to Vanguard, which allowed players to stomp through a makeshift model city, really getting into the snowboots of the beasts.
But Mayhem has been left out this time around, despite Sphere getting remastered as Growhouse, and players are calling for its return, given that we've had a mass injection of tiny likeminded maps.
Taking to a Reddit post, players pined for the map, with one fan in particular saying, "Oh man, this map would have been perfect for the upcoming event."
"Awesome map. Vanguard had fantastic maps and played amazingly smooth," another fan added.
MW3 fans hopeful of finally getting the chance to enjoy Vanguard content
Although Vanguard sold an extraordinary number of copies, the title was overwhelmingly boycotted following a rather broken and unfinished launch.
By the time Mayhem arrived, the title was a complete article and quite a fun game, but few players that are present two years down the line got to enjoy it, and now the community is hoping for more remastered content, such as Mayhem, to finally enjoy Sledgehammers' creation.
"Never gave myself the "opportunity" to play Vanguard, so I'd be elated to see this added, even if it's just for the aesthetic appeal," said another fan on Reddit.
"Vanguard had nothing but great maps outside of the sub base and Japanese tree map. Fun gameplay and everything. Such an overhated game," a fourth fan said.
Mayhem has not been included in the list of maps due to arrive in Season 3, even at the halfway stage, but there's still hope for Season 4 in seven weeks.
