Time is running out for the Modern Warfare series to put its signature stance on the Call of Duty series, as Treyarch's turn at the wheel is slowly approaching in the rearview mirror.
Modern Warfare 3 has just a number of months left before it hands over the reins to the presumed Black Ops Gulf War title, meaning Sledgehammer Games only has a few more major updates to really hammer the title up the CoD rankings all while sprinkling both iconic moments from the sub-series and their own games to appease the live-service model.
So with that in mind, players have now begun to list just which characters they want to see return in the remaining seasons.
MW3 fans call for returning Operators in final seasons
With only a few chances left for the Modern Warfare series to do its lap of honour before being shelved for a number of years, fans now want to see returning faces from instalments gone by.
Taking to a Reddit thread, players listed characters such as "Domino" and "Bale" from MW2019, "Yegor" and his blue Adidas strip who could easily mirror Makarov and the No Russian affiliation, Otter and his Obi-Wan Nairobi skin, and Mara.
Others also reference old crossovers, such as Rambo, Donny Darko, and Jigsaw, while forgotten Campaign heroes like Sandman were also mentioned.
It won't be Mara...
One of the most requested Operators to return was Mara, who was a fan-favourite in 2019, especially within Warzone.
However, the chances of her return to the series as a character are minimal, as her actress Alex Zedra revealed that she was caught up in the middle of a legal battle between a photographer she worked with and Activision over the rights to her likeness.
Speaking in a recent Q&A on YouTube, Zedra said, "A photographer I worked with sued Activision over the likeness of the character Mara, who uses my face, and unfortunately, I was in the middle of a legal battle and it was totally devastating news for me."
"Nothing was ever specifically spoken to me about why Mara wasn't coming back to Call of Duty but we can all assume that pretty much the lawsuit is why Mara was not brought back."
Sledgehammer Games has taken the route of honouring its old titles, rather than other MW games recently, filtering in Vanguard and Advanced Warfare content.
Some Vanguard characters might be quite fun to see if the timeline can be smudged, although anything that isn't Advanced Warfare's Kevin Spacey will do.
