Sledgehammer Games have completely leaned into the nostalgia with Modern Warfare 3 so far, taking every opportunity to revisit the past.

The devs have taken players down memory lane with the MORS from Advanced Warfare, the OG MW2 (2009) maps, and according to leaks, soon the Kar98k and SPAS-12 will be available on the arsenal.

You'd assume this would lead to backlash from fans wanting more fresh content, but that hasn't been the case, with the community enjoying the blast from the past MW3 has brought to the table.

They're loving it so much, they want the devs to bring Call of Duty 4 back into the fold next with some classic and "forgotten" maps.

MW3 players want Call of Duty 4 maps in multiplayer

Call of Duty 4 is where Modern Warfare began, and while undoubtedly a classic, it's often forgotten and underappreciated due to its blockbuster sequel MW2, which arrived in 2009.

The CoD4 era introduced a variety of impressive maps, some of which have become staples in countless titles in the franchise, with the most popular being Shipment.

However, players on the ModernWarfareIII subreddit have called on the devs to bring back some of the OG CoD4 locations that deserve more respect than they get.

These include the farmland battlefield Overgrown, known for its camping sniper spots and vantage points that are perfect for those in a ghillie suit.

The community also wants Crossfire to make a return in MW3, a map that gives you the option of a long sightline, or the enclosed tight spaces of buildings along the edges. They also gave a shoutout to the sandy roads of Backlot and Crash, a map that featured in countless frag montages back in the day.

If remastered, all of those would be incredible to revisit in Modern Warfare 3, especially with the expanded arsenal of weapons.

"Camping on grandma's house in overgrown was some core childhood memories," said one user, with another claiming "Crossfire has always been my favourite map."

With there being so much demand for a Call of Duty 4 throwback, let's hope Sledgehammer can deliver it before the end of the MW3 era.
