Competition is at the very heart of Call of Duty, with the majority of players heading into all of their matches looking to secure the win.

However, the stakes are not particularly high in pubs, so eventually, competitors start craving more of a challenge.

That's where Ranked Play comes into the fold, introducing CDL rules and allowing the community to climb through the Skill Divisions.

Season 1 Reloaded on January 17 was meant to mark the release of Ranked Play, but Sledgehammer hit players with a surprise delay at the last minute.

Modern Warfare 3 Ranked Play mode delayed

As showcased by CharlieINTEL, the CoD devs took to Twitter on January 17 to reveal that Ranked Play for MW3 had been delayed.

According to them, this was due to "unforeseen circumstances" and a "critical issue" that would likely affect the Ranked experience.

While they made it clear the "team are working to solve this issue" and launch the mode as soon as possible, it's still massively disappointing for fans. Worse still, there's no potential release window, meaning it's currently delayed indefinitely

Although the content of Season 1 Reloaded has been brilliant, both Warzone and MW3 are in bad shape when it comes to technical difficulties. With certain menus not working, Warzone matches crashing, and Killstreaks making no sounds, players are labelling the patch a "disaster."

MW3 fans slam devs over "embarrassing" delay

As you would expect, this rocky update has not gone down well with the community who have labelled it as "embarrassing" and cannot believe a delay is required for such a fundamental mode.

"They had since October or November how the f**k is it delayed," asked one player, with another arguing, "Billionaire company and they suck everything out of the game."

It's impossible to know exactly when Ranked Play will arrive, but it's hopefully very soon. Even if it does, it's still massively frustrating for those who were counting down the days until January 17. Let's hope Sledgehammer can patch this up and give the community the competitive experience they were waiting for.
