As Black Ops 6 beckons, Modern Warfare 3 is winding up for a climactic end to back-to-back titles in this series. Two years of characters will be on the way to the archives, and modes that have been celebrated in the past will also be left out in the cold.

It's all as Treyarch seemingly lines up its own portfolio of fun ways to play Call of Duty. But in order to end on a high, the Modern Warfare 3 developers are already laying some modes to rest. RIP, it's been a good run.

Ground War and Invasion will cease support in Modern Warfare 3

There is still one more season of content to come in Modern Warfare 3, including three major updates that will round off one of the best live-service Call of Duty games that we've ever seen.

But, if you're a fan of the larger modes like Ground War and Invasion, then it looks to be the end of the road for you.

Taking to Reddit, Sledgehammer Games confirmed that the two larger modes will no longer be supported, despite not having received any major updates since their release. In a simple and blunt comment, the developers said, "We do not have plans for any additional Invasion or Ground War maps at this time."

Fans immediately hit back with criticism, downvoting the comments and claiming that the modes have never been supported. "Be honest, there never were any plans at all," said one angered fan.

"Ten months and 5 seasons passed without you guys mentioning the mode anywhere in any capacity. It was just complete silence from the studio the whole way through." Others pointed out that it could just port forward the maps from Modern Warfare 2, although the dismissive comment looks like these prayers will be falling on deaf ears.

Sledgehammer Games has been praised for Modern Warfare 3, but the treatment for the larger modes like Ground War, Invasion, and even the semi-supported War has left a lot to be desired. With Treyarch picking up the slack for Black Ops 6, let's hope fans feel like they're being heard next time around.
