Manchester United's David De Gea Launches Esports Organisation Rebels Gaming
Manchester United goalkeeper and Spanish international David De Gea has launched his own esports organisation named Rebels Gaming, following in the footsteps of his footballing colleagues who are flooding into the industry.
The highly-rated goalkeeper has targetted the "new generations of young people" that also follow mainstream sports to transfer their interests with the Spanish-based organisation.
David De Gea Eyes VALORANT And LoL Teams For Rebels Gaming
Rebels Gaming will reportedly be looking to dive into League of Legends, Rainbow Six: Siege, and VALORANT, as they look to build a diverse portfolio of professional teams and content creators/streamers.
The organisation will also operate out of Valdebebas, Madrid - the city of De Gea's birth - and will create its own training facility where teams can practice and create content from within.
De Gea Joins Manchester United Teammates In Esports Ventures
The goalkeeper joins a host of Manchester United figures that have taken the plunge into esports in recent times. The recently departed manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, acquired a 12.5% stake in Norwegian esport company Ulti Agency, and club legend David Beckham is also a major influence behind Guild Esports.
De Gea's teammates Jesse Lingard and Harry Maguire also announced esports ventures in 2021, with the former branching out to Rainbow Six: Siege with JLINGZ Esports. Maguire joined Everton forward Dominic Calvert Lewin in backing Semper Fortis Esports too, joining the organisation as an ambassador.
De Gea said, "It is a project that aims to instil to the new generations of young people the main values that have accompanied me since my beginnings in professional football, within a framework of innovation and unparalleled technological development."
"We want to enhance motivation, leadership, resilience, the management of situations of success, defeat, and above all, teamwork."
Rebels Gaming has yet to confirm any members of their professional and behind the scenes team members, although it's likely they'll be looking at targeting the start of the League of Legends and VALORANT calendar years in early 2022.
