While the atmosphere might not be exactly the same as it once was, we're back to queueing in Call of Duty lobbies and arguing over whether we should be opting for Rust or Terminal for the next map. For many, it's just what a lot of players have been waiting for.
It seems like a big focus of Modern Warfare 3 is to farm nostalgia, and though the game has its issues and similarities to its predecessors, many of them are obscured by the excitement of bolting across Favela and Afghan. But it looks like there's one map that players just aren't engaging with anymore.
Fans are avoiding certain maps in Modern Warfare 3
MW3 players have come together to attest that among the belters that Modern Warfare 3 has to offer in its map selection, there are some real stinkers that they seem to be skipping at every opportunity.
Modern Warzone's recent post shines a dim spotlight on the map Derail, and it has caught the attention of players everywhere. They point out that they try to avoid the snowy area whenever they can.
"I actually don’t think I’ve played it once on this CoD," says FaZe Kalei in the replies. "I skip it every time." The Act Man adds, "The reason Derail is included is so you can feel nostalgic when you vote to skip it." First introduced in 2009's MW2, Derail is part of Sledgehammer attempt to lure us back with retro maps.
But it looks like it isn't just Derail that's rubbing players the wrong way, as there's another map that has made fans feel as though they'd convinced themselves it was good when. In fact, it falls pretty flat.
Fans are turning on Estate
Even though it was one of the maps that players were most excited to return to, many have turned on Estate. Critics claim that their nostalgia-tinted glasses had convinced them that the map is better than it actually is in practice.
Not stopping at Estate, someone else added, "This CoD has about 5 unplayable/ass maps, Underpass, Wasteland, Derail, Afghan, and Estate all getting played off nostalgia but suck." While we thought it was just the campaign you were against, it seems multiplayer is also being rinsed.
It's a shame that players have been given exactly what they asked for in terms of nostalgic maps, and yet, they're still disappointed. Maybe we should have been clearer about which maps we wanted back.
