Bizarre KFC x Final Fantasy XIV collab makes Colonel Sanders canon
It was recently reported that Final Fantasy XVI wasn't exactly the financial masterclass that Square Enix wanted it to be, which comes as a surprise to those who saw how big a deal it was at launch.
You couldn't turn anywhere without seeing the latest chapter of the fantasy epic, and though Square wasn't entirely happy with the reach of its success, it was still a great time for those who cared deeply about the Final Fantasy series.
Now, it looks like one of the game's predecessor is coming through with a new compelling crossover - though we'd have some serious questions for you if this was the thing that brought you to Final Fantasy XIV.
Colonel Sanders is in Final Fantasy
Not the crossover we expected. Nor the one we deserve, really. As part of a new marketing push from KFC Japan, the man, the myth, the legend, Colonel Sanders has appeared in Final Fantasy XIV.
Revealing the mystery as a new cross-promotion with the game, KFC Japan has shared a video of Colonel Sanders gazing off into the horizon, before using a spell that outs him as a Black Mage. "Colonel Sanders is steadily preparing for a new adventure in another world…" reads the strange post.
We're not sure what to make of this reveal, especially as we can't yet tell if Sanders' appearance is a mere costume or a full new playable character, but we're still morbidly curious. This isn't the first finger lickin' crossovere, as in 2019, players in China were offered the Fat Black Chocobo mount if they bought a family deal for four.
Fans react to Final Fantasy's strange KFC crossover
Fans have taken to the replies of the strange crossover's announcement, and it's safe to say that they're about as confused as we are. One said, "If this doesn’t come to the states/Canada Imma be SO MAD," while another added, "I am both fascinated and terrified. Excuse me, Terri-Fried 🍗"
At this point, we're just numb to KFC getting its greasy fingers in video games. Just join Smash Bros and be done with it. With more questions than answers, at least we know one thing...that we're hungry for a bucket of the good stuff.
