The world of Final Fantasy fans is pretty swept up right now, and it’s hard to blame it.

The second instalment of the immense Final Fantasy 7 remakes is finally out, and as the game continues to prosper, players have barely had the chance to consider what could come next, even if it’s right around the corner.

Final Fantasy 16 is set to get a new DLC pack titled Dawntrail very soon, hitting in July when the fever of Rebirth wanes - but there’s still plenty for fans to learn about the expansion, and much that we still simply don’t know.

But now it looks like a crossover event has revealed a change that players hadn’t bargained for.

Final Fantasy 16’s DLC may come with a graphics upgrade

A brand new crossover event has appeared in Final Fantasy 14, and it may have indicated that the new update to Final Fantasy 16 could offer more than players had bargained for.

Clive from the most recent mainline title naturally appears in the crossover, and while it’s nice anyway to see him appear in the anime boy road trip title, fans have pointed out that something is different here, in a very good way. Clive looks good. Like, really good.

Fans have been sharing their shock on social media, pointing out that the model for the FF16 protagonist has been drastically improved from his appearance in his own game.

It’s pretty shocking that he looks better here than in the game that launched on new-gen consoles and had every right to look better in his own title than in one that came two mainline titles ago - but players have a theory as to why this is.

Fans think a graphics update is coming in Dawntrail

Players have pointed out the reasons that Square Enix could have dedicated time to an improved Clive model for a mere minor crossover in Final Fantasy 14, and they’ve concluded that the only rational one would be if the team was already working on a graphical upgrade to come to Final Fantasy 16, and they had a higher-res model just kicking around.

It’s a compelling theory, and it’s got a lot of hopes high for the upcoming DLC - but we simply can’t know until it gets a full announcement. Either way, Clive stans, you’re eating well today.
