Karma Jokes At CDL Comeback After Scump And Envoy Test Positive Again
The Call of Duty World Championships has been confirmed to be going ahead this week, despite the Stage V Major resulting in Covid-19 spreading around many team camps.
During the event in Arlington, Texas, which saw Minnesota Rokkr come out on top with one of the most thrilling comebacks ever seen, the pandemic began doing its best job in trying to cancel the upcoming Championships.
The OpTic Chicago duo of Seth "Scump" Abner and Dylan "Envoy" Hannon both confirmed on Twitter that they had tested positive following the event, despite being "pretty responsible the whole event."
Scump Confirms He's Continuing To Test Positive, Five Days Before Champs
With the Championships set to kick off on August 19, Scump admitted on stream that the OpTic line-up have had to delay their flights due to the SMG duo still testing positive.
Speaking to chat, Scump said: “We’re definitely starting to get a little bit worried,
"We were expecting to start testing negative by today/tomorrow [August 14]. So a positive test today is definitely not good for our mental state."
The CDL rules state that each individual entering the arena, whether they're a fan, player, crew member, or talent, has to provide a negative PCR test within 72 hours of attendance unless they are fully vaccinated and not showing symptoms, calling into question whether OpTic will be at full strength.
Karma Jokes About CDL Return If Scump And Envoy Are Positive
With Scump and Envoy still testing positive for the virus with time slowly ticking down to their first game versus a Clayster-revived New York Subliners, OpTic may be forced to pull in two substitutes to play alongside Matthew "FormaL" Piper and Brandon "Dashy" Otell.
OpTic's substitute is currently Jordon "General" General, who had a solid season in the Challengers' series with Triumph, whilst their final sub may have to be Head Coach Troy "Sender" Michaels.
However, within the OpTic ranks lies one of the greatest Call of Duty players of all time, in Damon "Karma" Barlow. The retired three-time world champion joined the sub-franchise as a content creator earlier this year and has since joked that he could be on call to join the side over Sender, if Scump and Envoy are deemed unfit.
The return of Karma would mean the first OpTic fixture would see two members of the elite "Three Rings Club" go head-to-head, with James "Clayster" Eubanks making his return after an absent Stage V Major.
Karma did shine in some early pre-season tournaments, and was arguably the best player to grace Black Ops 2, which could bode well with OpTic's Raid and Standoff performances. However, it's rather unlikely that we will actually see the "GOAT" back in action...
Although we would all love to see it.
OpTic now has just three more days to provide negative tests for their roster, who have now lost a day of preparation in Los Angeles. The Green Wall will be praying to the CoD gods, in hope that their chances of another title don't crumble into an emerald pool of rubble and dust.
