Clayster Benches Himself For Mental Health Break
The Call of Duty League 2021 season has been filled with disruption and dismay, but few teams have been hit with the blunt end of the stick more than the New York Subliners.
From pre-season rostermania turmoil to multiple visa issues and forced substitutions, the Subliners' side have seldom enjoyed a few settled weeks.
Despite their pandemonium, Subliners' star stalwart James "Clayster" Eubanks has steered the vessel to an impressive fourth place, securing their place at the world championships and currently in poll position for a top-seed.
However, with OpTic Chicago snapping at their heels, Clayster's topsy-turvy season has proven to have taken a toll on his mental wellbeing, and he's now announced that he will be stepping down from the starting Subliners roster to recharge.
Clayster Takes A Break From CDL Action
The three-time CDL world champion will be feeling the heat with a possible fourth ring just around the corner, which could cement him as the greatest player of all time. However, with one week of league play games left before the all-important Stage 5 Major, Clayster will be taking a week off to recharge his batteries for the final hurrah.
Taking to Twitter, the Subliners confirmed Conor "Diamondcon" Johst will be filling in, with Clayster reiterating that the decision isn't "for good".
Clayster Confirms Mental Health Break Isn't "for good"
Also taking to Twitter, the Call of Duty League vanquisher said he "Just needs a break from it all."
He continued: "I'm sure you all have seen I haven't been myself in quite some time, need to take a step back and get myself straight mentally,
"Gotta take care of yourself over everything, and I don't plan on this being 'for good,' but I hope the boys crush it."
Subliners go toe to toe with Paris Legion and Atlanta FaZe this week, as they look to overcome a 0-3 record in Stage 5.
New York need to better the results of a high-flying OpTic Chicago at the Stage 5 Major for a top-seed placement at the World Championships, which may be why Clayster has chosen to take the break now.
Should he come back in for the Major, it will be the last set of games before the Championships kick-off and one team will be presented with a set of shiny new rings.
