Infinity Ward Makes Good On Their Promise And Bans 20,000 Cheaters In Warzone

Oh sweet justice! According to Motherboard, Activision Blizzard and Infinity Ward have banned 20,000 accounts for allegedly using a popular cheat used in Call of Duty: Warzone. It’s unclear if these bans are account bans or reach the hardware ID level.

Cheating in Warzone had become a serious problem over the last couple of months. The biggest Twitch.tv streamers frequently had to suffer from so-called stream snipers getting into their games and trying to annoy the broadcaster using aimbots and wallhacks to gain an unfair advantage.

In March of this year, Activision and Infinity Ward had already banned 70,000 accounts due to cheating. Later in July, Infinity Ward stated that “Cheating will not be tolerated. More ban waves are coming.” They furthermore defined the reason for bans as “aimbots, wallhacks, trainers, stats hacks, texture hacks, leaderboard hacks, injectors, hex editors or any software used to deliberately modify game data or memory”

One small recourse for endless recreation of free accounts comes with the requirement to link a Warzone account to a phone number in order to identify themselves. From May onward, players were required to confirm their identity tied by receiving a code to their cellphone number.

Hopefully Twitch’s biggest streamers will get to play freely for a while without cheaters breathing down their necks.
