Apex Legends Ranked is where the most competitive players in the Outlands go to showcase their skills and take on opponents in a bid to climb up through the tiers.

As a result, it's absolutely key that Respawn does everything in its power to ensure all competitors are on a level playing field.

While using third-party software is strictly against the rules, macros and configs are somewhat of a grey area in Apex. Although they're bannable in competitive play, this is not the case in Ranked.

Well, TSM's Philip 'ImperialHal' Dosen believes that needs to change and has called on the devs to disable configs in Ranked.

ImperialHal argues configs need to be "disabled" in Ranked

For those who are unaware, configs and macros let you bind keys and execute actions that are not possible for a standard player.

Whether this is instantly performing a hard-to-perform mechanic or in the case of controller, unlocking MnK levels of movement, they provide a huge advantage for those who use them. Due to this, they're strictly banned in Apex Legends comp.

For Hal, "Rolla Configs and M/K configs AKA Macros should be disabled for Ranked," as they compromise the competitive integrity of the mode.

In his opinion, it makes "no sense" that configs are not bannable in Ranked and the devs need to look into this problem as soon as possible.

Why hasn't Respawn banned configs in Apex Legends Ranked?

It's impossible to know why Respawn hasn't banned configs in Apex Legends Ranked without an official statement, but it's likely due to how hard they are to detect.

Unlike third-party software, it's a lot easier to go under the radar with macros and the devs are probably unsure of whether they have the capabilities to enforce a widespread ban.

In the comp environment, it's a lot easier to police as the tournaments and matches happen on such a small scale.

A potential anti-cheat upgrade in the future may be the catalyst for a macro crackdown, but we'll just have to wait and see.
