We haven't even jumped back into the worlds of Liberty City, Vice City, and San Andreas for the GTA Trilogy, but that hasn't stopped fans mulling over the idea of a GTA 4 remaster. It's all go with things GTA, and for once, our attention has finally been drawn away from the mythical GTA 6

It's already been eight years since Rockstar unleashed GTA V onto the world, and alongside it being the most profitable entertainment product of all time, it's sure to climb back to the top of the charts with the upcoming Expanded and Enhanced version. Given that 2001's GTA III, 2002's Vice City, and 2004's San Andreas are also back in the limelight, it means GTA 4 is the forgotten filling in a Rockstar sandwich.

GTA 4 Remaster: What's The Scoop?

Someone pitches the idea of a GTA 4 remaster, wow, groundbreaking. The latest news comes from RalphsGuide - who previously backed up Tom Henderson's musings on Call of Duty 2022 being Modern Warfare 2

As well as pitching a GTA 4 remaster for 2023, there's word that it could come to last and new-gen. If this is the case, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC players will be all under one roof. Sorry though, Switch players could be locked out of this one.

Elsewhere, it's speculated the mythical GTA 4 remaster won't come with the popular multiplayer mode it had at launch. The other big takeaway is the fan-favourite Episodes From Liberty City expansions will come as part of the remaster. To be honest, we'd pay simply for a remastered version of The Ballad of Gay Tony

GTA 4 Remaster: Is It Real?

Sadly, we've learned to tread with caution on this kind of thing. At the time of writing, GTA 4 is in danger of being lost in a sort of limbo like Resident Evil - Code: Veronica. Capcom has taken a similar stance in remastering older Resi games, but just because Code: Veronica is next in the line of succession, does it really mean it deserves a remaster just for the sake of it?

Rockstar parent company Take-Two Interactive has a jammed slate of games that has no less than 62 releases between this and 2024's fiscal year. Most impressively, 21 of those are coming before the end of the current fiscal year. There's definitely scope for a GTA 4 remaster to release in 2023, but personally, we don't see it.

We should probably point out that the first whispers of a GTA 4 remaster appeared on 4chan, which is the gaming equivalent of Chinese whispers on the playground. It's entirely possible RalphsGuide has just jumped on the bandwagon for the Twitter clout. That being said, it's easy to imagine all of the above being the real deal.

Even if the GTA 4 remaster is just a pipe dream, for now, at least we have Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition to enjoy on November 11.
