Those Fortnite dataminers have been at it again, and this time, they think they've discovered a new Heavy Mortar weapon hiding in the back of Epic Games' battle royale favourite. Chapter 2 Season 4 has delivered much more than just Marvel-themed content as we've seen favourites like the Boogie Bomb get unvaulted, while the latest patch has just added an Iron man twist to the classic Jetpack.

The OG Pickaxe from back in the day is also being given away as part of the game's rollover to next-gen consoles, however, the surprises don't end there. Delving deeper into the v14.50 patch, it looks like there's one more gift coming our way in the form of a mysterious Heavy Mortar. You'd better take cover because it sounds like this one could quite literally blow the competition out of the water.

What is the Fortnite Heavy Mortar?

According to noted leaker HYPEX, the Heavy Mortar is coming "soon". They posted on Twitter and wrote, "Epic are working on a weapon called Heavy Mortar. The description is ‘Guns Machinegun,’ make your predictions". With just under a month to go until the credits roll on Season 4 and Galactus' plan comes into play, there are still more updates on the way, suggesting the Heavy Mortar will come in the next patch.

HYPEX also reiterated the weapon will take rocket ammo, meaning it could become part of an extended arsenal against Galactus. Given that the giant world-devouring being is expected to fully land on the Fortnite map, it's easy to imagine an epic final battle where players have to take to the skies with their Jetpacks and blast Galactus to kingdom come with the Heavy Mortar.

Have we heard about the Heavy Mortar before?

More info on the Heavy Mortar is sketchy to say the least, but remember when we reported on a mysterious weapon that was a cross between a minigun and a rocket launcher back in September. This Fortnite hybrid weapon had apparently been in the code for a while, leading to the idea it was simply something that had been planned ages ago but never came to fruition. Now that a similar story has reared its head again, we'll have to keep a close eye on what's really going on.

Tony Stark has been busy tinkering away on the Battle Bus - possibly making it ready for interdimensional travel - while also unleashing his own plethora of weaponry, so it would be cool to see an Iron Man-themed Heavy Mortar make its mark on Fortnite. Let's also remember we don't know what's inside the S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier vault, so is Mr. Stark cooking up something big before the season's end?
