It looks like Epic Games is gifting us a blast from the past with the potential return of the OG Fortnite skins. Epic is gearing up for the next generation of gaming consoles as the latest patch is shoring up the battle royale favourite for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S.

More than just some familiar faces from Fortnite past, players can also get their hands on the exclusive Throwback Pickaxe, which is a next-gen version of the OG Fortnite axe we're all used to playing with. With confirmation the Throwback Pickaxe is on the way, it raised questions about what other nostalgic features could be brought back. This led to the tease of the default skins landing back in our wardrobes.

Are the OG Fortnite skins coming next?

Posting on Twitter, Ali-A said the default skins are on the way. It comes after someone responded to the news of the Throwback Pickaxe and said "One day we'll get the Chapter 1 defaults back", promoting Epic to tease, "Soon". Heading back to the early days of Fortnite, the game was immortalised by those camo-themed Chapter 1 skins. When Chapter 2 rolled around, they were gone from our lives.

Of course, not everyone is impressed by the prospect of having to pay to get your default skins back. Replying to Ali-A's Tweet, one critic wrote, "Wait, they are selling what once were free skins? bruh" . Another added, "Imagine having to pay to look like when the game used to be fun", while a third grumbled, "The fact that they're being sold, when they used to be free for everyone is sleazy asf. As someone whose been playing since Ch. 1 S3, this is trash".

How can you get the Throwback Pickaxe?

At least there's good news when it comes to the Throwback Pickaxe. To get your hands on the Throwback Pixacke, you can simply head to the PlayStation Store. It's also suggested it's coming to Xbox and PC, so watch this space. What's interesting is that we're getting so much "throwback" content at a time there are swirling rumours the OG map could return. The likes of Tyler "Ninja" Blevins and Ali “SypherPK” Hassan have also discussed the potential advantages of bringing back that beloved Chapter 1 map

Tying all of this together, the latest updates have suggested Chapter 2 Season 5 will be a game-changer. While we all remember how "The End" wiped the original map from the surface of Fortnite and set the ball rolling for Chapter 2, it's entirely possible the devs have an early Christmas present to round off 2020. For the time being, we'll have to wait patiently to see if the OG Fortnite skins are coming back. If so, you'd better start saving those V-Bucks.
