At this stage, you might think Fortnite is running out of things to add. Now that a whole host of characters from Avatar: The Last Airbender have made it to the crossover-laden battle royale, it seems that players are at a loss for what could actually show up next.

Despite fears the well of pop culture could run dry, new gameplay elements are in danger of wearing thin too. Some think the current Chapter 5 Season 2 hasn't brought enough fresh content to Fortnite - but that could be about to change thanks to a new leak.

Fortnite could be adding proximity chat

Now, Fortnite's toxicity is in danger of increasing a thousandfold. According to reputable Fortnite leaker HYPEX, proximity chat could finally be coming to the game after years of fan demands to make it happen.

Several leakers have revealed that Fortnite proximity chat is "coming soon," but there is no elaboration on when exactly it'll arrive and how it'll work. However, there's one crucial thing that's keeping players from celebrating just yet.

It appears as though proximity chat will be limited to Creative Mode for now. It's easy to see why Epic Games is reluctant to add proximity chat to the core game, as it would promote toxicity on another level. Still, fans are furious that the developer doesn't look like it's fully dedicated to the idea yet.

Players have taken to Twitter to express their disappointment that the feature won't be coming to Battle Royale, unrelenting in their fury that they can't verbally abuse the young target demographic as they build them into a corner and blast their head off with a shotgun - especially when many Creative maps already have open mic.

One grumbled, "Creative is already open mic though. Pubs is where it needs this," while another added, "Man I need this on BR." Not everyone was convinced though, as someone else said, "This could either be a really good thing or really bad thing with Epic Cracking down and banning people for what they say."

It could definitely be fun for Fortnite to go down the Call of Duty route, but perhaps it's wise for Epic to hold off for now and see what proximity chat will do for the game's community in Creative. Sounds like you'll have to put your 'banter' on hold for now.
