Final Fantasy fans have felt starved for a while, even though there's a brand-new mainline title on the way.

There's something about the games that begs for it all to be remade, and as we've seen the successes of the likes of Octopath Traveller, it's clearer than ever that the pixel-style of video games are truly timeless, making Final Fantasy perfect to be put on the slate for remakes.

And now, we've finally got those remasters that we've been craving - the only problem is that you likely can't buy them.

The Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters collection is finally here, and it's packing all of the first six games in the iconic franchise, fallowing many players to see exactly how the series originated. The remakes are long overdue and give players a sight into the past.

Sadly, if you wanted a physical copy of The Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters collection, you may be out of luck. The pre-orders for the game were notoriously botched, with limited quantities made for both PlayStation and Nintendo Switch, meaning those versions have made their way to eBay with an absurd markup.

Listings offer a copy of the game for up to $699 for the Switch, and they're selling for around $250. It's a pretty horrible situation for FF collectors to find themselves in, but the consolation prize is that the games aren't entirely inaccessible, with them being on digital storefronts.

What was the deal with Final Fantasy's preorders?

There's really no reason for the pre-order fumble to have taken place with Square Enix, and nobody is exactly sure why the company decided to print such limited copies of the game. Perhaps there's a restock planned for the future, but for now, physical collectors are out of luck.

Thankfully, Play-Asia has the Japanese version of the game, which also includes an English option if you don't want to splash the cash and are willing to pay for an import. There's also a chance Square Enix will roll out another batch of orders.

It's a strange situation for fans to be left in, but for now, it looks like we're going to have to go without or head over to eBay to splash our savings on the Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters collection
