Battlefield 2042’s fanbase is in a tricky spot right now. Post-beta, we’re now stuck in the interim between testing and playing the final product, and while hype continues to fizz and fester, some players remain sceptical as a result of their experiences giving the game its first public test-drive.

The game looked excellent from the outside, but now that we’ve had a chance to play it, some fans think cracks are beginning to show - especially one feature that is impeding the enjoyment of many.

TikTok Calls Out Battlefield 2042’s Friendly Fire

A video has been gaining traction on TikTok that exposes the friendly fire feature of Battlefield 2042, which has seen many players call the feature incredibly unfair.

The video sees a player and streamer playing the game, who discovers that the icon that indicates that a player is a teammate vanishes when they enter deployed smoke.

It certainly adds to the realism of the game, and makes Battlefield 2042 feel more like a real-life - well - battlefield.

But, it’s led many to worry that it’ll lead to incredibly severe team-killing mishaps with the game’s friendly fire feature.

Fans React To Vanishing Icons In Battlefield 2042’s Smoke

Players are deeply frustrated that there’s no indication that a player is your teammate when enveloped in smoke, claiming that it’s unfair that players can’t know what they’re shooting at.

“Why would someone expect the world from an EA game though?” asks one commenter. “Battlefield games never have a smooth launch anyways.”

This video has also prompted the conversation about player uniforms and the fact that player models need something distinctive about them to indicate if they’re a team member or not. “There’s one person in that video with a uniform”, says another user in the comments. “And it’s the goddamn AI medic he revives.”

Whether or not the lack of indication is a choice for realism or not, fans are not happy - and knowing them, they won’t rest until they see change.
