We're rolling the dice and heading back into the Mojave Desert, as a massive Fallout: New Vegas expansion gives us a whole new story to play in the 2010 cult classic. It's been 12 years since the Courier journeyed across this neon-splashed wasteland and gambled against Mr. House. New Vegas is a game we've played over and over again, but now, there's another reason to return.

The hopes of fans and developer Obsidian Entertainment have sadly never led to a sequel, but much like how Fallout 4 got the likes of the Nuka-World and Far Harbour, a massive Fallout mod has added a DLC-sized expansion to New Vegas. Although the OG New Vegas had six add-ons like the Dead Money expansion, they were nothing compared to the latest addition.

What Is The Fallout: New Vegas Expansion?

Over on Nexus Mods, you can check out Race to the Bottom, which tells you to go back into the rich world of New Vegas to spin the roulette wheel one more time. This fully-voiced mod comes from cgyp5, who some might know created the equally impressive New Vegas expansion called The Deterrent

This time around, the action moves to The Freeside Coop, which has been robbed by "unknown assailants." New to the franchise is an NPC called Ella Hawthorne, who hired you as a mercenary to unravel the crime and track down the culprits - presumably for some rough justice. As the mod's description says, "The journey will offer you multiple ways to solve each problem with an emphasis on roleplaying."

The modder says they've tried to match Obsidian's style, meaning it feels like that classic New Vegas experience from all those years ago. Adding over 1000 lines of dialogue, you can "roleplay to your heart's content." In terms of size, Race to the Bottom is a medium-sized mod that is around the same as Fallout 4's Automatron add-on. If you download it, expect to be done in less than two hours.

When Is Fallout 5 Releasing?

Looking to the future of the franchise, get ready for an achingly long wait. It's already been seven years since Fallout 4 soared to the top of the charts. While we rounded off the game's DLCs with Nuka-World in 2016, there was the standalone VR port in 2017. The fact Microsoft now owns Bethesda should've been good news for Fallout 5, but it inadvertently had the wrong effect.

With Microsoft and its various studios now juggling so many exclusives, Fallout 5 has slipped way down the list behind everything from Fable to The Elder Scrolls 6. Although The Elder Scrolls 6 is in pre-production, it's presumably years off in itself, so we dread to think when Fallout 5 will eventually release. Todd Howard has vowed that Fallout will remain under the Bethesda umbrella, but with such a wait on the horizon, would it really hurt to give Obsidian New Vegas 2 to fill in the gaps? In the meantime, we're left to creative modders filling in that radioactive hole in our hearts.
