A user over on The Last of Us’ subreddit has discovered an Easter egg in Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, that could prove both games are set in the same universe.

What Is The Reference That Links Both Games?

Reddit user u/kheinrichs547 spotted the reference when playing Uncharted 4. During chapter 16 of Nathan Drake’s adventure, when exploring a bedroom, you can pick up and interact with a small pill bottle that is from Weston’s pharmacy. This is the same pharmacy that can be found throughout different sections of both The Last of Us and its sequel.

Its first time popping up is in the expansion for the first game, Left Behind. A section, in which Ellie and her friend Riley explore an abandoned mall, leads them to a pharmacy, which Ellie calls out by name. The second game features it a few times throughout, though it’s never as clearly identified as it is during Left Behind

Is This The First Reference Between Them?

It is, in fact, not. Before The Last of Us was even officially announced, Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception featured a small reference to the title. During a section in the game where Drake is in a bombastic bar fight, there is a newspaper that can be found on the bar counter that reads: “Scientists are still struggling to understand a deadly fungus.”

For those who aren’t aware, the ‘zombies’ in TLOU are essentially infected by a parasitic fungus which is called the Cordyceps brain infection, turning them into mutated mushroom monsters. The Last of Us was initially set to be announced before Uncharted 4’s release, but Naughty Dog forgot to take out the Easter egg in time.

There is also a hilarious fan theory that the upcoming Kirby and the Forgotten Land and The Last of Us share a universe, due to the game's trailer showing off post-apocalyptic areas eerily similar to TLOU. So maybe the potential new Uncharted in the works at Sony could somehow feature everyone's second favourite pink blob (candy floss being number one, of course).

For those wanting to try the Uncharted games and maybe find The Last of Us' references, a collection of all the games is possibly coming to PC soon. It's not an unreasonable leak, as PlayStation have been making moves into the PC market, and even announced God of War for Steam and the Epic Store recently.
