Job Listing Appears To Confirm Call Of Duty: Warzone For Mobile
Activision has been rolling around in dollar notes in 2021, following the success of the Call of Duty franchise that until recently seemed to be dwindling. With a return to boots on the ground gameplay of the core titles, a battle royale that encapsulated the minds of over 100 million layers, and a mobile app that collates the golden years of CoD with new brand-spanking content, Call of Duty has never looked so healthy.
Whilst Black Ops Cold War, Modern Warfare, and the upcoming Call of Duty: Vanguard continue to compete with each other for the console player base, Warzone and CoD Mobile have begun to thrive.
The developers now seem keen to combine the two, bringing Warzone to the palm of our hands.
According to job listings found on Activision's site, they are creating a new mobile game. According to their LinkedIn post, "Activision Mobile has put up new roles! Teams are focused on Live Operations and content expansion across CoD Mobile and Warzone. Our dev teams are dedicated to mobile and comprised of all major disciplines.”
Activision Job Listings
Nearly 50 roles have become available to work on a new mobile title, which indicates that the huge project will be moving at a fast pace.
The position of Engine Programmer states "Activision Publishing is currently looking for an Engine Programmer to join the Mobile Team to work on a new mobile title", pouring more fuel on the fire that a Warzone mobile title is in the works.
Other listings, all involving the description of a new mobile title, come in the form of Senior Mobile Engineer, Graphics Engineer, Executive Producer - Mobile, Senior Games Designer, Lead 3D artist, and nearly 45 more positions.
With such a massive collaborative effort and the existing knowledge we have on Warzone's enormous file sizes, it's no surprise that a team of this size is neccessary.
When can we expect Warzone: Mobile?
Unfortunately, no indications of how long these positions will last are added to the job listings, giving away no clues as to when we can expect the mobile Warzone game.
However, many other developers are looking at announcing battle royale mobile games as of June. Games such as VALORANT and PUBG: New State could be revealed in time for The Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) in June, which leaves Warzone Mobile open to either join the line-up or be forced to play catch-up behind its competitors.
Whether Warzone Mobile could emulate its console cousin in snatching players from other titles will remain a mystery until its reveal.
