The Modern Warfare 3 Beta is here, and while there has been overwhelming praise for the weapons, killstreaks, and movement, fans have taken issue with one major aspect of the title.

For them, while it's great to revisit the nostalgic MW2 (2009) maps, the graphics are just not up to standard for 2023 and appear "dull."

Considering MW3 has been developed with the impressive hardware of the PS5 and Xbox Series X in mind, some players are disappointed with the level of detail on the maps.

It's even led some to speculate that these MW2 (2009) locations in MW3 were developed when the MW2  remastered campaign was released back in 2020.

Call of Duty fans are not happy with 'dull' MW3 Beta graphics

Taking to the ModernWarfareIII subreddit, user The_Wxly7 sparked a discussion by arguing that the graphics just aren't good enough in MW3.

In their opinion, the "last few CoDs have looked great," but that isn't the case in MW3 where all of the maps are "dull and the detail doesn't really seem that high."

Considering how incredible other games look on the PS5 and Xbox Series X, The_Wxly7 argues that MW3's "graphics aren't 2023 standard." In response, some players claim that "The problem is render resolution, it's super low for some reason," but others have come to a more elaborate conclusion.

CoD players think MW3 maps are from MW2 Remastered

In the thread, CoD fans speculate that MW3's "maps have been just sitting since the MW2R campaign was released" back in 2020.

"They had them on a hard drive somewhere in Activision HQ as a backup plan since MW2Remastered for sure," said one user, with another arguing that the "assets used in both have VERY similar quality."

While this seems plausible at first, keshavb11 (CharlieINTEL) shut down the theory, revealing that "the rumour of MW2 Campaign Remastered having MP removed was never true." As a result, the multiplayer maps were never made, so they couldn't have been reused.

Although Sledgehammer re-using old assets is out of the question, it doesn't change the fact that fans are disappointed with MW3's graphics. With the release date creeping closer and closer, it's unlikely to receive any major upgrades before then.
