We've known it's been on the cards for some time, but Call of Duty has now officially revealed that there will be a 2023 instalment of the franchise, and that Modern Warfare 3 will be coming this year.

Despite originally planning to have Modern Warfare 2 as a two-year Call of Duty, it seems like the second-year DLC has now morphed into a fully-fledged game. It leaves us with another annual premium release.

Now, Modern Warfare 3 has been officially unveiled ahead of its worldwide in-game event in Warzone.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 release date confirmed for November

After a lengthy wait, Call of Duty has taken to social media to announce Modern Warfare 3. The rebooted game will be the third in the series, which re-started in 2019 and will see Captain Price be faced with a familiar foe again.

Call of Duty has also revealed that Modern Warfare 3 will launch on November 10, 2023, although there will likely be a campaign early access period and two beta weekends prior.

Following heavy rumours about being the lead developer studio, Sledgehammer Games has now confirmed its role for Modern Warfare 3. It's the developer's second title in three years, following Vanguard, and the fourth that it has led overall (Advanced Warfare and WWII being the others).

Sledgehammer Games also co-produced the original Modern Warfare 3 alongside Infinity Ward. We already know that Sledgehammer is also preparing to bring back slide cancelling to both MW3 and Warzone, confirming earlier rumours, although it will likely be toned down from what we have seen previously.

As for what else Sledgehammer has up its sleeve, that is yet to be seen, but more will be revealed next week with the in-game event.
