After slide-cancelling was removed with the release of Modern Warfare 2, a lot of players assumed that the powerful mechanic would never return.

The Call of Duty devs had implemented a slower playstyle with more realistic movement. While some praised this decision, others complained that the overall skill gap in Call of Duty had been reduced significantly.

So, when leaks hinted that slide-cancelling may return in MW3, a huge proportion of the community got extremely excited. However, as the devs hadn't revealed it, others remained sceptical over whether it was true.

Well, through a set of teasers via content creators, it's now been confirmed that slide-cancelling will be back in Modern Warfare 3.

Slide cancelling is coming back in MW3

With MW3's release on the horizon, the CoD devs have been sending out packages to content creators with teasers for some of the features coming to the game.

As showcased by ModernWarzone, Kris "Swagg" Lamberson was one of the select few who received a set of items and had to put the clues together.

Opening it up on stream, Swagg was given a pair of slides, a can, and a cell phone, which is certainly an unusual set of objects. However, when put together in order, they spell out "slide-cancel," effectively confirming that the movement mechanic will be back.

Not only that, Swagg received a text on the phone that said, "You'll be expected to move more quickly in Al Mazrah." This is just another clue that suggests mobility is going to be enhanced in MW3.

When is MW3 expected to release?

So, when will you be able to slide cancel again in Call of Duty? Hopefully, the mechanic will be activated when MW3 releases, which is expected to launch in November 2023.

While the specific date is still a mystery, the month was confirmed by the judge overseeing the court battle between Activision and the FTC.

Although many hardcore CoD fans have been vocal about wanting to see the return of slide-cancelling, it'll be interesting to see if it's well-received by the casual audience when MW3 arrives.
