From plundering pirates to sparring Spartans, cunning Crusaders to violent Vikings, Ubisoft's long-running Assassin's Creed series has (quite literally) covered a lot of history. The question on everyone's lips is where we go next.

We know the Animus is ticking away in the background, as Ubisoft is working on a Baghdad-based Assassin's Creed Mirage that will bring back Basim from Assassin's Creed Valhalla. There's also the mysterious Assassin's Creed Red that will take us to the much-requested Japan, but what comes after? Now, an ambitious fan trailer shows off Assassin's Creed WWII

What Is Assassin's Creed WWII?

Since 2007, Assassin's Creed has been a staple of the gaming scene. Although we've come a long way from the stealth gameplay of Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad and Ezio Auditore da Firenze, the core of the franchise is still there. It's clear we're not running of time periods just yet, and with calls to jump into the trenches of WWII, TeaserPlay has done it for Ubisoft.

The YouTube account is known for turning mythical games into fully realised Unreal Engine 5 concepts, and alongside the likes of a Venom spin-off for Insomniac's Spider-Man games or a new-gen remaster of the original God of WarAssassin's Creed World War II looks stunning. Here, we see a game taking place in occupied France, complete with blimps, patrolling planes, and the Eiffel tower looming in the background. Even though it's true that we've been to Paris plenty of times in the franchise's history, we've never seen it like this.

Using that signature stealth, our MVP takes out some unknowing soldiers while stalking the streets of the city. There are also some brooding night shots to emphasise what dynamic lighting could look like in this fictional game. Making the most of the Unreal Engine 5's potential, you'd be forgiven for thinking you're in an upgraded version of Sledgehammer Games' Call of Duty: Vanguard

Fans React To Assassin's Creed WWII

As with any TeaserPlay video, gamers loved what they saw. One cheered, "Dude that's f*****g incredible. That's an AC game I'd play for sure," while another added, "I'm tired of WWII games but this would be really interesting." A third concluded, "It really is a no-brainer to have Templar Nazis." It's true that Pandemic's The Saboteur has often been called WWII Assassin's Creed, but it's not quite the same.

Only recently, Assassin's Creed fans were championing the idea of a Cold War-inspired entry, but after seeing this, we think they'll be changing their minds. The problem is, because legacy franchises like Call of Duty and Battlefield largely have the war setting nailed, AC straying into this territory is sure to be a big risk. We're sure Assassin's Creed will eventually be conscribed, it just might not be for a while.
