The use of third-party software has been a problem in Apex Legends since the game's release, and it's something Respawn is constantly battling.
While its anti-cheat receives regular improvements, the cheat makers are also always evolving their programs.
The most common form of hacks, by far, seen in Apex are aimbots which lock onto foes. However, cheaters now seem to have more power over matches than ever before. Seemingly with a click of a button, bad actors can instantly crash an entire match, kicking everyone out of the lobby.
Apex Legends speed hacker instantly crashes match
Former Apex Legends pro Jacob "HisWattson" McMillin has showcased a "speedhacker" that's been streaming sniping them on a regular basis.
With Rampart's Sheila equipped, they land nothing but headshots on enemies, effectively insta-killing anyone in their path. Despite this, it's not the aimbot that's the most dangerous weapon in the hacker's arsenal, as they have the power to instantly crash a match.
As seen in the clip, the hacker shuts down the whole lobby, kicking everyone out immediately. This shouldn't be possible for any player to do, especially in Ranked, where the stakes are high.
How is the Apex Legends hacker cheating on console?
Eagled-eyed users also spotted that the hacker terrorising HisWattson is actually on console, or at least that's what it says on their profile.
This caused confusion as cheats like this are usually only accessible on PC. However, certain players have claimed there's a bug which allows PC users to trick the game into thinking they're on console.
Out of all the possible explanations, this one seems the most likely in this scenario, as getting hold of these kinds of hacks on a PlayStation or Xbox is unheard of.
