For a rundown of the Witchfire release date, early access, trailers, platforms, and everything we know about the game so far, read here.

Witchfire is the upcoming first-person shooter that mixes fantasy with medieval as you play as a witch hunter, tasked by the church to find the infamous witch of the Black Sea.

From the same creators of Bulletstorm and The Vanishing of Ethan Carter, the game has been marketed as a rogue-lite with fast, challenging combat that combines fantasy-themed powers and more traditional weaponry. For more information about Witchfire, read below.

Witchfire is set to launch through early access on September 20, 2023.

As it will be early access, the game will still be subject to change post-launch and will take player feedback into consideration during a period of 12-16 months.

Witchfire will launch exclusively on PC via the Epic Games Store whilst in early access.

As of writing the developers, The Astronauts, have confirmed that the game will release on other platforms via their FAQ page here, but have not cited a date or which platforms it will release on yet.

The most recent trailer was the early access date reveal trailer, which feature a mix of in-engine footage and gameplay, mostly showing off the combat against various enemies.

It ended by revealing the date that players would be able to try the early access version.

Witchfire is a rogue-lite FPS centred amidst a dark fantasy world and puts you in the shoes of a witch hunter, also known as a 'Preyer' who has been given powers through forbidden 'Pagan' magic to help them on their hunt for the witch of the Black Sea.

The witch in question holds the key to turning the tide of battle, an invaluable artefact that the church hopes will aid them in the war against the witches. The only issue is that the witch of the Black Sea is surrounded by an impenetrable phantom army, that you must get past first.

Aided with magic and weaponry, as a Preyer you'll be able to fuse the two together for powerful results.

From the weapons showcase trailer released earlier this year, we know that weapon combinations are going to play a pivotal role in the game.

Weapons start off as simple tools with hidden magic inside them that only witch hunters have the skills to access.

Each weapon has unique abilities which unlock at levels of attunement. As the hunter attunes more to the gun, they will access more powerful abilities.

There are also spells which can be used within combat. There are two types of spells:

  • Light Spells – are quick to use and cost little stamina.
  • Heavy Spells – are slower to use and take longer to regenerate.

One such spell was showcased earlier this year and showed the witch hunter summoning a phantom bell above enemies. When shot, the bell can explode and stun enemies in an AOE radius.

Spells are elemental in nature, either falling into the air, earth, water or fire categories. These spells will create status effects and react to one another in different ways, meaning combining elemental spells can add another layer to combat tactics.

If you're looking forward to playing Witchfire, you can add it to your wishlist here via the Epic Games Store.
