God of War Ragnarok is packed with numerous resources needed to upgrade your weapons, shields, and armour. Many of those rare resources can only be acquired in certain ways. This most notably includes Smoldering Embers, being crucial to fully upgrade certain armour pieces. Here is how to get your hands on these resources in the game.

How to get Smoldering Embers

Smoldering Embers can only be acquired in Muspelheim. These can only be earned in its various combat trials, each initiated by the three giant swords - respectively in their own area and marked with F, R, and H runes.

However, you can't get Smoldering Embers from the get-go. First, you need to go to each area and take on the two combat trials it initially has available, making six trials to beat in total. Once you beat the first six trials, you then must go to the centre area where its Nornir Chest is now glowing.

Once you've interacted with the chest, you'll have unlocked Surtr's Hidden Trials. These add a third harder trial to each F, R, and H rune combat area. Complete these challenges, along with the previous six already available, and you will now be able to start earning Smoldering Embers.

You can take on these trials an infinite number of times, so you can farm Smolder Embers as much as you wish.

In fact, completing all fifteen trials, including the final trials initiated by interacting with the new giant sword taking the place of the Nornir Chest in the centre, will require you to replay some trials anyway. So, if you are trying to get the Trials by Fire trophy, it goes hand in hand with hunting for Smoldering Embers.
